A four-month investigation by the District 17 Drug Task Force has led to the arrest of an Eagletown man and an Idabel
woman.
Matthew Leonard, 24, and Sherri Vesseni, 37, were charged Dec. 27 with unlawful
delivery of a narcotic in McCurtain County
District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Drug Task Force Agents followed two
informants to Vesseni’s home just west
of Rifle Range Road and parked about a
quarter of a mile away. Wearing audio/
video equipment, the two informants
bought an eight-ball of meth (almost 4
grams) from Leonard. On the video, Vesseni and Leonard could be clearly seen.
Leonard appeared to be smoking a joint.
He then handed it to Venessi who took a
hit and she handed it back to Leonard. The
informant confirmed the two had been
smoking marijuana.
Leonard is no stranger to the McCurtain County Court system. In 2009, he was
charged with endeavoring to manufacture
a controlled substance, but the case was dismissed.
In 2008, Leonard was charged with possession with a controlled
substance, unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to
distribute, eluding a police officer, possession of a CDS, APC, and
TOC.
Bond was set for Leonard for $50,000 and he was ordered back to
court Feb. 1 for his preliminary hearing.
Vesseni’s bond was also set at $50,000 and her preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 24.

An Idabel man was taken into custody after he shot
his brother during an argument.
Alan Clark, 49, was charged with assault and battery
with a deadly weapon in McCurtain County District
Court.
According to the police affidavit, Sgt. Whit Kent responded to a report of a shooting in the Pollard area.
Dispatch had advised him the reporting party said he
had shot his brother and needed assistance. When he
arrived at the scene, OHP Trooper Joe Jefferson already had Clark, the alleged shooter, in custody. The
victim had been transported to the hospital by EMS.
A witness, who had been present at the time of the
shooting, said Clark and his brother were arguing
about nothing specific. He then heard Clark say he was going to get a gun and saw
Clark go to a bedroom and get a gun. He then heard the gun go off, but didn’t actually see Clark point the gun at his brother, but he did hear the gunshot and saw the
victim on the ground.
Clark was transported to the McCurtain County Jail where he was booked.

Answer: The Bible does address the issue of
rape. As expected, when the Bible mentions the
crime of rape, it is depicted as a gross violation
of God’s design for the treatment of the human
body (Genesis 34). The Bible condemns rape
whenever it is mentioned. For example, there is a
particular passage in the laws given to the nation
of Israel before entering the Promised Land under
Joshua’s leadership. This passage (Deuteronomy
22:13-29) spoke directly against forcing a woman
into a sexual encounter against her will, or what
we know today as rape.
In the New Testament, rape is not mentioned
directly, but within the Jewish culture of its writers, rape would have been
considered as sexual immorality. As such, both Jesus and His followers (including
the apostle Paul) spoke against sexual immorality, even offering it as justifiable
grounds for divorce when a person actively committed sexual acts outside of the
bond of marriage (Matthew 5:32). This would not, however, apply to the victim
of rape, only the one who committed the act.
Further, the New Testament is clear that Christians are to obey the laws of their
governing authorities (Romans 13). Not only is rape morally wrong; it is also
wrong according to the laws of our governing authorities. As such, anyone who
would commit this crime should expect dire consequences, including arrest and
imprisonment.
To the victims of rape, much care and compassion must be offered. God’s Word
often speaks about helping those in need and in vulnerable situations. Christians
would do well to practice these teachings and model the love and compassion of
Christ by assisting victims of rape in any way possible.
To those who have committed rape, we must remember two things. First, people
are responsible for the sins they commit. Second, however, no one is beyond the
grace of God. Even in the lives of those who have committed the vilest of sins,
God can extend forgiveness to any who will repent and turn from their evil ways
(1 John 1:9). This does not remove the need for punishment according to the law,
but it can offer hope, even to those whose sins have made them outcasts in the
eyes of others.
What does the Bible say
about rape?

Three Atoka men
were taken into custody after deputies
received an anonymous tip that the
trio had stolen several items from a deceased man’s house.
Jia Fisher, 18, was
charged Dec. 28 with
second-degree burglary and knowingly
concealing stolen property; Kyle Brooks, 23, and Dondre Williams, 19, were charged with
second-degree burglary.
According to the police affidavit, the men decided Dec. 24 to break into a home in the 100
block of E. 2nd St. They entered a bathroom window and stole several guns, but that wasn’t
enough. On Christmas, they returned to the scene of the crime and stole even more guns and
a flat screen TV.
The affidavit also states a 16-year-old juvenile was also involved.
According to court records, Williams, the juvenile, and another 16-year-old juvenile are
suspects in the Nov. 16 burglary of the Atoka Elementary School. Williams was charged Jan.
3 in connection with that crime.

Two Tennessee would-be robbers tried to “disguise”
themselves by covering their face in black magic marker. That is never, ever a good reason to apply black anything to a white face.
Bad news: A Florida man was pulled over and arrested after the police searched his car and found
marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Good news: In
the process, the police found a bong that the man had
been looking everywhere for -- and thanked the cops
for their help.
If you’re anything like the woman in Sweden arrested for drunk driving, you may think you can get out of
the case by covering up one eye to avoid double vision,
as she claimed in court. Unfortunately, it won’t work
(neither the method nor the excuse).
There’s a reason that billboards don’t say, “Drink.
Drive. Go To Jail. Next time, get your 10-year-old son
to drive instead.” But one Tennessee man found out
the hard way that it might not be a great idea after the
car crashed (everyone is fi ne).
You gotta hand it to a Dallas man who tried to cash a
fake check for $360 billion. Why not?
When a 14-year-old Tampa Bay boy dialed the
wrong number, he quickly apologized, then off ered to
sell the person on the other end of the line some drugs.
Unfortunately for him, that other person was a cop.
A Colorado man went to a video store and claimed
that as a part of the “age verifi cation unit” of the local
police department, it was his duty to confi scate DVDs
of pornography to ensure that all the actresses (and
actors, presumably) were over 18. As foolproof as this
plan was, he was arrested by the cops deployed from
the Creepster Verifi cation Unit. Apparently he had
never even heard of the Internet.
Since when was it a crime to try to resuscitate a longdead armadillo on the road? Who knows, but a drunk
Pittsburgh man who tried was arrested anyway.
Here’s a great way to get arrested: 1. Commit bank
fraud; receive over $200,000 in credit. 2. Flee the
country. 3. Brag about your new lifestyle on Facebook.
5. Accept friend request from DOJ offi cial. 6. If you’ve
made it this far, you don’t need our help.

A traffic stop for a broken taillight ended with drug trafficking
charges for an Ada man Dec. 29 after police say he had more than
35 grams of methamphetamine in his truck.
Around midnight that day, officers spotted a white Ford F150
cab driving on US-75 North with a broken taillight and initiated
a stop. When officers confronted the driver of the truck, Charles
Willet, 39, Willet started visibly shaking. When asked if he had
any illegal drugs in the truck, Willet burped loudly and almost
threw up, according to the affidavit. His voice cracked when he
denied having methamphetamine in the car, police said.
Due to Willet’s behavior, officers sent a K-9 unit to smell in and
around the truck. Once the K-9 dog came out, Willet then said
he “wanted to be honest” and told police he had methamphetamine and a pipe on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Also, he said
a “decent amount” of meth was concealed in a cup holder on the dashboard, according to the
affidavit. To add to Willet’s problems that night, a more intensive search of the truck turned
up a rifle and a box of shells.
Willet was arrested and transported to the Durant police station, where he admitted ownership of the drug and pipe. He said it was for his personal use, adding that he was smoking
to cope with personal relationship problems.
Willet pleaded not guilty to the charges and posted a $26,000 bond Jan. 7. He has a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 20 at 8:45 a.m.
On second thought...

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

The OSBI is renewing the reward off er of up
to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest
and conviction of the two men who shot an
elderly Wagoner man and stole his weapons last
Thanksgiving (11/24/11).
The Wagoner County Sheriff ’s Offi ce requested
OSBI assistance with the shooting and attempted
murder of 74-year-old Kenneth Payne last
Thanksgiving morning. About 7:30, Payne was
at the Fort Gibson Wildlife Management Area
Shooting Range sighting in several of his guns
when someone shot him multiple times and left
him for dead. Payne was able to call a family
member on his cell phone for help.
At least four guns were stolen from Payne, was
well as a gun caddy. Payne, who is retired from
the Air Force, lived only a few miles away.
One of the stolen rifl es is a rare Mitchell Black
Lightning .22 magnum rifl e.
OSBI Forensic Artist Harvey Pratt met with
Payne to draw sketches of the two suspects a couple weeks after the
shooting.
Sketch one is that of possibly a Hispanic male in his late 50s with a
light complexion. He stood approximately 5’9” tall and weighed about
160-165 pounds.
The second sketch is that of the second suspect who has dark
curly hair that extends to the back of his shirt collar. He also stands
approximately 5’ 9” tall and weighs about 160 pounds. This man is in
his mid-to-late 30s.
Please remember, these sketches are only considered likenesses of
the suspects. If anyone has information about this case, please call
either the Wagoner County Sheriff ’s Offi ce or the OSBI hotline at
1-800-522-8017.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
When I think of holidays, and
Christmas especially, I think of kids!
To me its all about the kids...seeing
their faces when they see that Santa has stopped by and dropped off
a lot of presents, watching them play during Christmas break, and
just getting to spend time with their family. So in that vein, I thought
I would talk about a law that is designed just for the kids, and that is
the Child Passenger Restraint Law! I’m going try and hit the major
points and put it in terms we can all understand.
First, the legal stuff; O.S. 47-11-1112 states:
Every driver, when transporting a child under six (6) years of age in
a motor vehicle operated on the roadways, streets, or highways of this
state, shall provide for the protection of said child by properly using
a child passenger restraint system. For purposes of this section and
Section 11-1113 of this title, “child passenger restraint system” means
an infant or child passenger restraint system which meets the federal
standards as set by 49 C.F.R., Section 571.213. (Look for something
on the package when purchasing that says it meets this standard!)
Children at least six (6) years of age but younger than thirteen (13)
years of age shall be protected by use of a child passenger restraint
system or a seat belt. Now, there are some drivers this does not apply
to; namely, the driver of a school bus, taxicab, moped, motorcycle, or
other vehicle not required to be equipped with safety belts, ambulance
or emergency vehicle, and the driver of a vehicle in which all seat
belts are in use. Also, someone who is transporting a child who for
medical reasons are unable to be placed in such devices, provided
there is written documentation from a physician of such medical
reason. It also doesn’t apply to the transportation of a child weighing
more than 40 pounds in the back seat can be wearing only a lap belt,
provided that the vehicle either wasn’t equipped with combination
lap/shoulder belts, or all of those combination belts are in use by
other children weighing more than 40 pounds.
Common sense says our children must be protected. The really
young ones have no choice in the matter, and it is up to us to keep
them safe, and buckle them in. I know some of the older ones can
unbuckle themselves, and do so often. If you start at an early age
with them, it will be second nature for them to stay buckled. And
finally, remember, you are the biggest influence on children, and they
WILL do as you do! So if you aren’t buckling up, they won’t want
to either! Be a positive influence, and lead by example. Thanks for
reading, buckle up, and be safe!

And now, from the Tales of Terrible Parenting That Could Have Ended Waaaaay Worse: A
31-year-old Broken Arrow man was arrested on
Dec. 6 after leaving his two children inside a car in
a bar parking lot while he went to drink. The kids
— aged 5 months (!) and 2 years — were luckily
okay, though the 2-year-old has health issues and
is currently awaiting surgery for a heart defect. The
slurring perp, Jason Daniel Murray, was booked
on charges of child abuse and neglect. And it gets
worse — per an arrest report, Murray refuted leaving the tots in the car, claiming “someone else must
have put the kids in the car while he was inside.” Denial ain’t just a river in
Egypt, dude.

An arson investigation in Soper led to the
discovery of an illegal
father-son moonshine
factory on Jan. 3.
Early that morning,
Choctaw County sheriff’s deputies carried
out a search warrant
at the 600 block of N.
4080 Rd., where Larry
Holder, 69, lives. His son George, 46, was under investigation for
burning a neighbor’s trailer, Sheriff Terry Park said.
However, when the deputies started looking around the property,
they were shocked to see an active whiskey still concealed in a storage unit on-site. The still can carry more than 200 gallons of alcohol,
Park said.
To make matters worse for Larry, he had multiple guns in his home
in addition to another empty still and multiple barrels full of alcohol,
according to the affidavit.
Larry was arrested on suspicion of operating an untaxed whiskey
still, manufacturing corn liquor and having firearms when committing a felony.
George came to see his father during the deputies' search and was
arrested on complaints of transporting untaxed alcohol, Park said.
Another search warrant served at George’s home revealed he had
moonshine, marijuana and even more guns.
The Holders had 400 gallons of mash, which is used to make
moonshine, with them, said Joe Daniels, an alcoholic beverage law
enforcement agent from McAlester. That’s the equivalent of more
than 1,500 liters of alcohol!
George also has a pending charge of concealing stolen property in
2012, which stems from accusations that he stole a stock trailer in
2010.
Larry and George posted bonds of $5,000 each Jan. 7. They’ll appear in court together at 1 p.m. Jan. 8.

Oklahoma death row inmate George
Ochoa was executed Dec. 4 for the 1993

he was wrongfully convicted of fi rstdegree murder in the shooting deaths of
Francisco Morales, 38, and Maria Yanez,
35, on Oklahoma City’s south side.
The punishment came less than a
month after the state Pardon and Parole
Board rejected Ochoa’s request that it
recommend Gov. Mary Fallin reduce his death sentence to life in
prison.
Investigators say Morales was shot 12 times and Yanez 11 times in
their bedroom on July 12, 1993. Three of the couple’s children were
inside the house at the time of the shootings and later testifi ed at
trial.
Prosecutors said there was little evidence to suggest a motive for
the killing, but no doubt that Ochoa and his co-defendant, Osbaldo
Torres, 37, were responsible. Ochoa and Torres were stopped
by police near the crime scene and were described by police as
“sweating and nervous,” court records show.
Torres, a Mexican citizen, was also convicted of fi rst-degree
murder and sentenced to death in the shootings, but his sentence
was reduced by then-Gov. Brad Henry in 2004. Henry imposed a
sentence of life without parole after Mexican government offi cials
raised concerns that Torres was not given a chance to speak with the
Mexican consulate after being accused, as required by international
conventions.

An Antlers man faces his third
DUI charge after drinking most
of a 12-pack of Keystone beer Dec.
29.
Around 5 p.m. that day, Pushmataha County sheriff’s deputy
James Marzek was on patrol when
he saw a blue Chevrolet van swerving in and out of the right lane.
When the deputy stopped the
car, he reported seeing the driver,
Isaac Enox, trying to hide something.
When Marzek confronted
Enox, he was immediately met
with Enox’s beer breath, which
prompted him to ask Enox to sit
in the patrol unit. When Enox got out of the car, he revealed he had
multiple Keystone cans on the floor board near his seat.
A check of Enox’s license showed it was revoked. To make matters worse, he told Marzek he had “six or seven” Keystone beers before driving, adding that he was drinking a can of beer while driving
around town.
Enox also refused to perform any field sobriety tests, saying “I
wouldn’t pass anyway” and that he should not have been driving. He
gave Marzek the same answer when the deputy tried to give him a
Breathalyzer test.
Enox has two DUI convictions in 2010 and 2002, records show.
The 2010 conviction, a felony, landed him a two-year deferred sentence. The first conviction resulted in a one-year suspended sentence.
Enox also pleaded guilty to domestic assault in 2008 and received a
six-month suspended sentence.
Enox was released from jail on Jan. 2. He will next appear in court
at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 9.
