A traffic stop ended with the arrest
of a Broken Bow woman and two
men on drug charges Sept. 21.
Just after 8 p.m. that day, Idabel
police officer Daryl Blakley reported
seeing a 1999 white Chevrolet with a
broken tail light. Blakley found Wylie
Litchford, Malisia Brewer-Broades,
37, and Andre Lewis, 36, in the car,
but this was no ordinary stop.
A K-9 dog on scene alerted police
about drugs on the driver’s and passenger’s sides of the car. Litchford
said he did not know why the dog
smelled drugs but admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day, according to the affidavit. On the passenger’s side, officers found pills
in the door jam and under the seat, causing Lewis to be immediately
arrested.
After the group exited the car, police did a thorough search and
found Brewer’s cell phone box. Inside, they found marijuana and a
small bag of methamphetamine. Also, a Coke can in Lewis’ possession had a bag of methamphetamine inside, Blakley said.
While the three were booked at the McCurtain County Jail, Lewis
said all the drugs found in Brewer’s belongings were actually his. His
story may be true, as he has two former felony drug convictions on
his rap sheet. He was convicted of cultivating controlled substances
in 2006 and conspiracy to deliver controlled substances in 2009,
earning a ten-year suspended sentence for each. Brewer-Broades
has convictions of grand larceny, uttering a forged instrument and
possession of a controlled substance on her record.
Brewer and Lewis were charged with possession of controlled dangerous substances and possession of marijuana. They have a court
appearance set for 9 a.m. Oct. 30.
Litchford was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession
and he will appear in court Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m.

Prison Pooch
“Pep, The Cat-Murdering Dog” was a black
Labrador Retriever admitted to Eastern
State Penitentiary on August 12, 1924. Prison
folklore tells us that Pennsylvania Governor
Gifford Pinchot used his executive powers
to sentence Pep to Life Without Parole for
killing his wife’s cherished cat. Prison records
support this story: Pep’s inmate number (C2559) is skipped in prison intake logs and
inmate records.

Idabel police busted a one-pot methamphetamine lab operation after executing a search warrant Sept. 28.
Richard Lee Dodd, 49, reportedly kept
a methamphetamine manufacturing and
dealing business running out of his tree
house, located on NE Indian Avenue in
Idabel. Police also found 11 firearms
ranging from single-shot and pump action shotguns to automatic pistols and
revolvers.
In the tree house, drug task force
agents found a bottle of lye, Drano crystals, Coleman camp fuel and liquid fire drain opener, according to
the affidavit. Also, several glass jars with methamphetamine residue,
cold packs and lithium batteries were recovered from the tree house,
as well as a 20 oz. bottle with methamphetamine cooking inside and
three disassembled firearms.
Drug task force agent Jason Stewart said in a report that a confidential informant tipped him off about the factory and the firearms,
which were stolen, according to the affidavit. A man he called “White
Boy” was trading the weapons for methamphetamine from Dodd,
the informant said.
The investigation began in August 2011, when officers received a
call about Dodd cooking methamphetamine daily at the tree house,
Stewart said.
In an interview with Dodd Sept. 30, he said the firearms did not
belong to him but he was keeping a pistol for a friend. The rest of
the weapons belonged to his son, he said. Dodd admitted to cooking
methamphetamine “about three or four times a week” and trades
the drug for pseudoephedrine pills. He also told investigators he had
a previous conviction for knowingly concealing stolen property. He
was arrested following the interview.
Dodd has a court date set for 9 a.m. Oct. 30.

Batman Busted
Michigan police busted Mark Wayne Williams, known as “The
Petoskey Batman,” after he showed up at a car accident Sept. 29
The 33-year-old wanted to help, but police said he only got in
their way.
“Troopers were securing a large area for the search of a subject
for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash when Williams
took it upon himself to search the area in his Batman persona,”
the state police said in a statement.
The Caped Crusader wanna-be insisted he could help police
find the driver involved in the wreck, who had wandered off.
“He wouldn’t clear the scene and we had a canine out there
and he kept screwing up the scent,” Sgt. Jeff Gorno.
Since Williams wouldn’t leave, officers arrested him. He was charged with obstructing police
in an investigation and resisting.
Authorities also confiscated his Batman attire. He is due back in court Oct. 18.
This isn’t the first time “The Petoskey Batman” has run afoul of the law.
Last year Williams was arrested while dangling from the side of a building. During that bust
he was found with “a baton type striking weapon, a can of chemical irritant spray, and a pair of
lead-lined gloves.”
He was later sentenced to six months probation, during which time he was forbidden to wear
his Batman costume.

District Judge Preston Harbuck has sentenced an Atoka man to at least 38 years behind bars after he pled no contest for murdering a man he got into a fight with behind his
house.
Mitchell Monroe Craver, 30, of Atoka, was
sentenced to life with parole Sept. 26 in Atoka
County District Court.
According to affidavit, on August 27, Atoka
Police Chief Gene Dodson requested OSBI assistance in the disappearance of Alan Wayne
Oliver. He had not been seen for several days and had information
that Craver could have possibly killed him.
Craver, who was already in the Atoka County Jail on a possession
of narcotics charge, told agents he and Oliver got into a fight and
Oliver pulled out a knife. Craver then took the knife from Oliver and
stabbed him repeatedly until he was still. Without checking to see if
Oliver was actually dead, Craver drug Oliver to his van, put him inside, drove to a wooded area behind the Atoka High School football
field and set the van on fire. He added he waited for about 15 minutes
and then walked back to his house.
Craver convicted
on murder charges

One of the things that is becoming
more prevalent, and with the
passing of the new open carry law,
will only continue to rise, is the number of people walking and driving
around armed. For law enforcement, this obviously creates some
challenges in our dealings with the public. I am going to attempt to
explain what we would like from the citizens who choose to go armed,
and what they can expect from us.
First, all people who wish to carry a gun on their person are
required to attend an approved concealed carry class. This goes for
those who wish to carry concealed or open. Upon completion of the
course and the requirements needed, you will be issued a Concealed
Carry License, or CCL. Let me point out, that having a CCL is a
privilege, not a right. It is issued by the state, and with it come some
responsibilities.
One of those responsibilities, and the one that is most important
to us law enforcement professionals, is the obligation to notify us
IMMEDIATELY upon contact. Lets say you get stopped for speeding
and you are a CCL holder and are armed, whether it is on your person
or just in your vehicle. The Trooper gets out of their car and asks
you to step back to them with your driver’s license and proof of
insurance. You should, before anything else, declare that you have
a CCL and are armed. Don’t wait until we see the CCL in your wallet
to tell us....that’s too late! They will then instruct you on what they
would like you to do to address this situation. There are several
things we may do at this point to accomplish this.
We may ask you to say (not reach for or move towards) where
the weapon is. Simply say the location, keeping your hands on the
steering wheel or where they can be seen. If its on your person, we
may wish to disarm you for the duration of the traffic stop, and will
give instructions accordingly. We may simply separate the weapon
from the ammunition and make the weapon safe, and then leave it
in your vehicle. Each officer will handle this in the way that he or
she chooses in order to maintain their own safety. None of these
methods are meant to infer that we feel threatened by a CCL holder,
or that we think you are a criminal or bad person. They are simply
ways that we can deal with the issue of a gun being present in order
to maintain our safety and the safety of others.
Hopefully, this will give you some guidelines on what we are
expecting when you come in contact with us while carrying a
firearm. With respect and understanding, we can all feel safe with an
armed citizen, while respecting that citizen’s right to carry. Thanks
for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

Hocking
An Oklahoma City man was jailed after a woman told police
he tried to get into her car while he masturbated on a street
corner.
Joshua Allan Hocking, 28, was arrested on an indecent
exposure complaint, according to a police report.
The woman said she was dropping her boyfriend off at
his job about 6:30 a.m. at SW 5 and MacArthur Boulevard
when they saw a man wearing pajama pants and no shirt
masturbating.
After the woman dropped off her boyfriend, she pulled back
up to the light and the man approached her car and tried to
open the passenger side door while continuing to masturbate.
He then started pounding on the window. The woman sped
away and called police.
When officers arrived, they found Hocking still at the street corner wearing the
clothing the woman described. He was arrested and taken to the Oklahoma County jail.
Police said Hocking has a prior conviction for indecent exposure and is a registered
sex offender. Records from the state Corrections Department show Hocking also was
convicted of sexual battery in 2006.

TRESPASSING
12 | october, 2012
What you’re saying
about this on...
Guy E: You gave permission to give swats.
What did you think they were gonna do give him a
little tap?
Lavender B: I say let the parents paddle that
administrator!
Shawn H: Boy is 13, why would parents allow
the school to punish? If they did and it was not excessive, it is on them for handing the responsibility
of raising their children off to someone else.
Rosemary L: I thought government schools
couldn’t spank anymore. When I was in 7th grade
they couldn’t. (I’m 31 now)
Kim P: I swear, this is what’s wrong with kids
nowadays. They are such pansies, along with
their parents. When we got “swats” or punished
by our parents we did not want to call DHS, or go
to the ER..... geez suck it up parents!! YOU GAVE
PERMISSION!!
Kimberly D: If this happened at home that
mother would be facing charges, the school has no
right to put bruises on any child. What makes a
school better than a parent?
Mark C: Oh that poor poor kid, how terrible that
he got a spanking for committing an act of violence
against another kid... Boo (beep) hoo, and people
wonder why kids are so spoiled and think they can
do whatever they want these days... I can’t believe
this is all over the news...
Rick S: Seriously. It’s a punishment. It’s not
supposed to feel good. What’s wrong with people.
Jailbird magazine may not be so full if more kids
had their backsides paddled. I got them every day
just like a one a day vitamin! Probably kept me out
of jail. Get swats at school and get them for getting
them at school when you get home. Parents loving
their kids straight to jail !
Chelsea D: Just because u gave them permission
doesn’t mean they can leave bruises like that! That
was uncalled for! No child should have to be taken
to the er from swats
Brittany P: i thought society today look at
spanking as child abuse? But their doing it in
school? Im all for a butt whoopin if my children are
not acting right, these days if you spank your child
in public its abuse and will scar the child for life
with embarrassment and could get dhs involved,
beating and disciplining the child is two diff things! I
know my children will not grow up acting like fools,
that’s what’s wrong with this world kids get away
with anything, have no boundaries or rules plus no
guidance, i for one will not let the school do my job
in disciplining my child, they can get suspended and
get their punishment when they get home, whether
it is a spanking, grounding or sentence writing.
Tina: I chose my kids not to be spanked and here
is why...... The DHS steps in if they hear we are
spanking our kids, so why should the school be able
to? As for this case, Had that been the parents who
spanked that kid and left a bruise and someone at
school seen it, you bet your bottom that the DHS
would be involved and the parents investigated so it
is not “ O, they chose for their kid to be spanked so it
is what it is” Those parents and that kid trusted that
person enough to believe he would be spanked the
right way, and that does not include bruises folks.
Christina A: some of you people are completely
ignorant. giving verbal permission to “swat” your
kid is a big difference between hitting them hard
enough to leave marks and bruises. he was being
punished for violence but lets turn around and
punish with more violence?
Joseph B: Detention never helped me, but a
spanking set my a** straight
Jeffrey L: Wow. How times have changed. I
got my butt busted plenty. Always got butt busted
when i got home after getting busted at school. I
turned out great. Definitely knew right from wrong.
I had bruises on top of bruises n never cried like a
lil b**ch. Suck it up n get tough. This is what i call
the wimpification of America. I, in NO way condone
child abuse. However, there has to be punishment of
some sort. Oh and not everyone gets a blue ribbon.
Somebody’s got to lose to teach n learn a lesson. Life
will go on.
April H: To all the parents out there that do not
believe in spanking, you need to bend over and
grab the chair yourselves. You are the reason this
generation is so delinquent and misbehaved. If your
mother was like mine, I got my a** beat, I spanked
all 4 of my kids and if I do say so, they are very well
behaved and good honorable young adults!!
Be happy someone is trying to mold your kids into
people you obviously are not!!!!!
Richard W: the parent gave permission to
discipline the child, not to abuse the child!
Cordell Police said they are looking into a
school punishment that left a mark.
The mother of an Oklahoma elementary
student said her son was left bruised in a
recent paddling last week.
Linda Drew said her 6th grade son was caught
fighting at Cordell Elementary.
She and her husband were given the option of
suspension or swats.
They gave the school permission to spank
their child because they thought suspension
or detention would have hurt his grades and
football practice.
Hours later, their son was being checked out in the emergency room with
severe bruising.

A Calera man was taken into custody after he
threatened a stranded veteran with a knife and
then stole a rifle out of his truck.
John Taylor St. Clair, 26, was charged Oct. 4
with robbery with a weapon AFCF and possession of a firearm AFCF.
According to the police affidavit, Durant Police Officer Brandon Carbaugh was dispatched
Oct. 4 to Highway 78 just north of Davis Rd.
about several men unloading electronics and
guns from a Dodge pickup to a Chevy pickup.
When Carbaugh arrived at the scene, he saw a Chevy pickup pulling
away from the Dodge pickup. He activated his lights and pulled the
Chevy over. Carbaugh asked the driver if there were any guns in the
truck and he said there was a gun back in the bed.
Carbaugh saw a Marlin .22-caliber rifle laying in the back of the
truck.
Lt. Brad Nelson arrived and asked the driver to explain what happened. He said he was going to Roberta to pick up his brother, St.
Clair, who was walking home. After picking him up, he asked St. Clair
if he wanted to help a stranded motorist he had passed earlier and St.
Clair agreed. When they found the man, they stopped, picked him up,
and St. Clair pulled a knife the man. St. Clair then told him if he tried
anything, he would cut him.
The trio drove back to man’s truck where St. Clair found a rifle behind the seat and put it in his Dodge truck. The driver, who didn’t
want any part of the scheme, argued with St. Clair over the gun for a
few minutes before the driver gave up and they drove away from the
Dodge. That’s when Carbaugh pulled them over.
The victim identified the knife St. Clair pulled on him and told police
he was in fear of his life the entire time. When the victim told St. Clair
he was veteran, St. Clair’s only reaction was to say, “F**k veterans!”
St. Clair was transported to the Bryan County Jail without incident.
His bond was set at $45,000.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Domestic violence and
abuse can happen to
anyone, yet the problem
is often overlooked, excused, or denied. This is
especially true when the
abuse is psychological,
rather than physical. Noticing and acknowledging the signs of an abusive relationship is the
first step to ending it. No
one should live in fear of
the person they love. If
you recognize yourself
or someone you know in
the following warning signs and descriptions of abuse, reach out. There is help available.

The Bryan County DA’s Office is actively seeking the arrest of Jessica Beth Taylor, AKA Jessica Beth Decastro. She
is a white female, 34 years old, 5 feet tall, weighing 125 lbs.
Taylor is wanted in Bryan County for Forgery, after former conviction of felony, and in Garfield County for Forgery and false declaration of ownership in Pawn.
Taylor’s current charges stem from an incident where
she attempted to pass a check stolen from a local church.
Both counties have entered Taylor/Decastro into NCIC.
Taylor is likely in the company of a 42 year-old 6 foot
white male with a prosthetic leg. He is not wanted at this
time.
Bryan County investigators have reason to believe that
the pair have fled into North Texas to evade arrest here in
Oklahoma. Both are known to frequent Casinos.
Neither Taylor nor her friend are known to have a vehicle
and are dependent on others for a ride from place to place.
Officers coming in contact with the pair should be alert for
narcotics violations, both have history of illegal drug sales and use.
If you have information on this person’s location please contact your local law enforcement
agency, or contact me, Investigator David Cathey, directly at 580-924-2987.

A Hugo man was charged with possession
of CDS, amongst other things, after he threw
his stash down right in front of a police officer.
Cody Harrimon, 26, was charged Oct. 5
with assault and battery upon a police officer,
possession of CDS, and possession of paraphernalia in Choctaw County District Court.
Choctaw Nation Tribal Police Officer Joe
Moore was at the Grant Travel Plaza when he
saw a red car pull up to the front doors. When
the men inside saw the officer’s patrol car,
they began to act nervous, according to the affidavit.
Moore pulled in around to the back of the building and the car
pulled out of the plaza. He noticed a rear running light out, so he
activated his emergency lights and the vehicle pulled over.
The back passenger, later identified as Harrimon, said he did not
have an ID, so Moore asked him for his name and birthdate. Harrimon gave him a name and birthdate, but Moore knew it was false
because he knew the man Harrimon said he was.
Moore asked Harrimon to step out of the vehicle and into his patrol car. Inside, Harrimon was very nervous so Moore asked him if
he had any warrants. Harrimon said he did not, but acted like he
wanted out of the car.
While Moore was waiting for the warrants checks, he got out of his
patrol car to talk to dispatch on his phone. Harrimon then opened
the door and stood up, throwing something on the ground right in
front of the officer. There at his feet was a baggy of marijuana and a
smoking pipe.
“Did you really just try to get rid of that with me standing here?”
Moore asked Harrimon.
Moore moved toward Harrimon to arrest him, but they had a short
struggle and Moore got socked in the face. Harrimon got away then,
but a few days later a tip came in on where Harrimon was hiding and
he was promptly arrested on the charges and for the two outstanding
warrants he lied about.
Seriously, dude?

OSBI has not released
any new information
about the death of a
Hugo man found last
month.
According to an OSBI
press release, agents are
assisting local law enforcement in Hugo with
a homicide investigation.
Tony Laray Jones’
body was found Sept. 16 near South Broadway Street close to Lowery
Street. Obvious signs of trauma to his body indicate the 41-year-old
was a murder victim.
The medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine the Jones’ cause of death. OSBI agents conducted interviews
with people in the area and collected possible evidence at the crime
scene. That forensic evidence will be processed at an OSBI crime lab.

A Talihina man was taken into custody Sept. 19 after he
tried to burn down an Albion woman’s home.
Chaz Austin, 31, was charged with fourth-degree arson and
breaking and entering Sept. 20 in Pushmataha District Court.
According to the police affidavit, Pushmataha County deputies were called to a home in Albion just before 10 a.m. The
victim reported Austin was pouring gasoline around the outside of her home and then kicked in the locked front door.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they immediately put
Austin in cuffs.
The victim told deputies she and another woman were
inside the house when Austin kicked in the door. He then
threw a candle and some other things on the coffee table at
her while she was on the phone with deputies. He also had a lighter and threatened to
burn her house down.
A green lighter was recovered from Austin’s pocket and deputies found a plastic yellow diesel fuel container. They could also smell the strong odor of gasoline all around
and inside the house.
Austin’s bond was set at $25,000 and he was ordered back to court Oct. 24 for his
preliminary hearing.

Abuse can happen in many forms. Physical, emotional and
sexual are common expressions of abuse and many people
just don’t know how to handle it. If you are an
abuser, stop it. If you are the victim of abuse,
let the words of the Bible guide you as you
decide how to handle the relationship with the
abuser. If you’re in danger, you need to get
away immediately. If your abuse is not life
threatening or is something in your past
that you still struggle with, take some time
to meditate on God’s Word on this subject.
The LORD rescues the godly;
he is their fortress in times of trouble.
The LORD helps them,
rescuing them from the wicked.
He saves them,
and they find shelter in him.
(Psalm 37:39, 40 NLT)
