An OSU student picked the wrong
way to stick it to his former employers
March 2.
That day, OSU police officer Leslie
Grotheer went to the Kerr-Drummond
residence hall, where someone called
about a burglary in the dining area.
While there, he spoke with the supervisor of one of the restaurants, who
said someone stole a safe with $900 in
cash from the back office.
Grotheer and another officer
watched surveillance footage, where
they discovered Tanner Harrison, 18,
walking into the area around 2:45 a.m. Harrison, wearing a backward baseball cap, long-sleeved plaid shirt and jeans, walked to the
back door, opened it, looked outside and went off camera. Harrison
showed back up on surveillance around 3:25 a.m.
The officers found the safe in the basement of Kerr-Drummond,
and they realized Harrison pushed the safe down a flight of stairs,
which damaged the tile and dented the walls.
Soon after, an employee of the dining area’s convenience store told
officers she recognized Harrison because he came in the store near
closing time while drunk. A check of transaction records showed
Harrison’s name, according to the affidavit.
Grotheer went to Harrison’s room, conveniently located in Kerr
Hall on campus, to ask him some questions. Harrison admitted
pushing the safe down the stairs in unsuccessful attempts to open it.
He also showed police the clothes and shoes he was wearing, which
matched those in the surveillance video.
Harrison was arrested soon after his confession and subsequently
charged with grand larceny. He posted a $5,000 bond March 5 and
pleaded not guilty March 7.
Harrison is due back in court at 10 a.m. May 6.

Two Stillwater residents’ attempt to be
Payne County’s own Bonnie and Clyde
landed them a trip to jail March 8.
Around 11:10 a.m. that day, Stillwater
police officer Jared Noles went to the local Oozle’s after receiving a larceny report. While en route, he learned there
were three suspects, one of which was
described as a white male with a red hat
and shirt who stole a red watch.
When Noles arrived with backup, he
saw the suspect, who identified himself
as Brandon Waters. The officers noticed
Waters was visibly shaking and nervous,
so they asked him some questions. Waters said he had no weapons but admitted having narcotics on his person, which
resulted in him being detained.
A search of Waters’ pockets turned up
a plastic bag of marijuana and methamphetamine, two prepackaged bags of
marijuana and a glass pipe.
One of the other officers escorted Larissa Singleton, 34, who was with Waters, to
her car so he could get her information.
A canine was called to the scene, and the
dog alerted the officers to the presence of
drugs, which prompted a search.
In the car, there was a loaded syringe inside a cosmetic bag, along
with unused syringes. In a backpack, there was a broken glass with
burnt residue as well.
Waters and Singleton were booked on complaints of possession of
controlled substances while officers weighed the drugs. Turns out,
the two were packing nearly 10 grams of drugs, Noles said.
Singleton and her partner in crime remain in custody. They have
court set for 8:30 a.m. April 9.

A former McLoud teacher who admitted to taking sexually
inappropriate photos of young girls, some her own students, wants a
judge to consider probation.
In a written letter submitted to the court, Kimberly Crain blamed
depression, menopause, a persuasive online love interest, an
emotionally absent husband and even hypnosis for her crime.
The former elementary school teacher detailed a timeline of events
that prompted her to plead guilty to manufacturing and distributing
child pornography and to lewd molestation. Crain makes an attempt
to reason with the court as to why she took sexually explicit snapshots
of girls in her class and then emailed or Skyped them to her online
love, Gary Doby, a professor living in Pennsylvania.
“I found myself giving in to all he wanted,” Crain said. “...I wanted to continue to keep him
happy.”
Crain eventually invited several girls to help her decorate her classroom before the 2011-12
school year. The students were invited to her house to eat pizza, and they were taped as they
changed clothes.
“I took some candid snapshots as they played and ate,” Crain wrote. She emailed those photos
to Doby.

Members of the Oklahoma Internet
Crimes Against Children Task Force
from the Guthrie Police Department and
the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation arrested two local men who solicited
sexual acts and made lewd proposals to
a minor.
Agents arrested Wallace Walters, 46,
and Bobby Anderson, 26, who are both
from Guthrie on March 22.
Using a Craigslist website, Walters and
Anderson both made lewd, sexual proposals to an undercover task-force officer
posing as a 15-year-old boy and agreed
to meet the boy at a local restaurant.
Upon Walters and Anderson arriving at
the restaurant and not locating the child,
they left the area.
Guthrie Police patrol officers stopped
Walters at the intersection of Iron Mound
and Cimarron in Guthrie. Walters was
taken into custody and booked into the
Logan County Jail on allegations of Lewd
or Indecent Proposals or Acts to a Child
and violation of the Oklahoma Computer
Crimes Act.

stopped Anderson at 2324 East Noble in
Guthrie. He was taken into custody and
booked into the Logan County Jail on an
allegation of Lewd or Indecent Proposals or Acts to a Child and violation of the
Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.
Also, on the morning of March 25,
ICAC task force members arrested Johnnie Jones, 41, of Coyle, at the intersection
of Iron Mound and Cimarron in Guthrie. Using a Craigslist website,
Jones solicited to meet an undercover task-force officer posing as
a 15-year-old boy at a local restaurant in anticipation of having sex
with the boy. When Jones did not locate the boy at the restaurant,
he departed the area.
Guthrie Police patrol officers stopped Jones and took him into
custody. Officers booked Jones into the Logan County Jail on a complaint of Lewd or Indecent Proposals or Acts with a Child and violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

A Stroud man led police on a manhunt after he robbed a convenient
store in Kendrick.
Clint Johnson, 26, was charged
with first-degree robbery, possession
of a stolen vehicle and third-degree
arson in Lincoln County District
Court.
According to the police affidavit,
Johnson went into the B&B General
Store in Kendrick wearing a hoodie
over his head and a checkered Tshirt over the lower half of his face.
The clerk said Johnson reached over
the counter and tried to open the
cash register drawer. She thought
the whole thing was a joke and tried to snatch the T-shirt from Johnson’s face. She figured out it was no joke when Johnson warned her
not to and to “give him the damn money.” After struggling with register for a few moments, Johnson picked up the register and smashed
it on the floor, eventually popping the drawer open. He then grabbed
the money and five packs of smokes and fled the store in a green
Dodge truck.
The clerk told deputies she happened to see a hole in the back of
Johnson’s pants and noticed he was wearing checkered underwear.
Sheriff Doughtery found the truck out in the country north of Kendrick. Johnson had apparently tried to destroy any evidence inside
the truck by setting it on fire, but the fire snuffed itself out before too
much damage was done.
The truck’s owner was traced back to Cushing, from where it was
stolen.
Johnson turned himself into authorities later that day in Stroud.
Johnson remains jailed on a $30,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 2.

A high-speed chase ended with a Wellston
man’s arrest in Chandler on 20 criminal complaints March 2.
That day, Chandler police officer Curtis
Rackley was on patrol when he saw a Ford
SUV speeding a quarter mile north of WalMart. A check of the radar showed the driver
was going 47 mph in a 35 mph zone, so Rackley gave chase to the SUV. While trying to initiate a stop, the driver, later identified as Donald Ashcraft, 51, started driving halfway into
incoming traffic and then rolled a stop sign
Rackley turned his lights on at that point, but Ashcraft refused to
stop. He started driving more than 70 mph over the I-44 overpass
and went airborne over the bridge, then he ran a pickup off the road
while driving more than 85 mph, Rackley said.
Ashcraft drove past another stop sign, this time blasting through it
at 70 mph. The driver then came across a curve, which caused him to
fishtail, and then drove another person off the road.
Eventually, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol set up a road block, but
to no avail. Ashcraft crashed into the OHP patrol car, which knocked
it into oncoming traffic. However, Ashcraft did not elect to drive
through a fence that came up soon after, so he got out of the SUV and
fled on foot.
During the foot pursuit, Ashcraft threw a black cylinder into some
trees. Eventually, the OHP trooper took Ashcraft down, and with
Rackley’s assistance, Ashcraft was handcuffed.
Officers used a K-9 to find the black cylinder. Ashcraft had good
reason to throw it away, as it had a syringe, a set of digital scales,
a plastic bag of methamphetamine powder, another bag with crystal meth and a bag with five hydrocodone pills inside, Rackley said.
Even worse, Ashcraft’s license was suspended at the time, and he had
unconfirmed insurance.
Ashcraft faces nine combined felony and misdemeanor charges, including assault and battery on a police officer. He remains in custody
on a $100,000 bond and is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. May 2.
