A Stillwater couple was arrested Nov. 7 following an
Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics undercover investigation.
On Nov. 5, Agent Chad Johnson received a report
from a Payne County sheriff’s deputy about Regina
Bourland, 28. The deputy said Bourland texted a “tipster” asking if the “tipster” wanted to buy some methamphetamine.
The deputy then texted Bourland and arranged a
drug deal, where he asked for shards of methamphetamine. Donald Bourland, 39, helped in the deal and
served as a middleman between Johnson and Regina, according to the affidavit. After several text message exchanges, Johnson agreed to meet Bourland at the Phillips 66 at the intersection of 14th Avenue
and Perkins Road, where Donald said she would drive a tan Nissan Altima.
Johnson paid $80 for the methamphetamine, which the couple left in an alley the gas station. Three
dime-size bags of the drug were concealed in a black Marlboro cigarette box, according to the affidavit.
Johnson made another meeting with the Bourlands, which set up the sting the next day.
Both Bourlands face a charge of conspiracy to commit a felony. Donald has multiple felony convictions on his record for possession of marijuana and larceny from a person, according to his rap sheet.
He was also convicted of possession of cocaine and assault on a police officer, receiving a five-year
suspended sentence except for a 60-day jail sentence.
They remain in custody on a $35,000 bond and has a court date set for 9 a.m. Dec. 3.

Oklahoma City: Dennis Newton was on trial for the
armed robbery of a convenience store in a district court
when he fi red his lawyer. Assistant district attorney
Larry Jones said Newton, 47, was doing a fair job of defending himself until the store manager testifi ed that
Newton was the robber. Newton jumped up, accused
the woman of lying and then said, “I should of blown
your (expletive) head off .” The defendant paused, then
quickly added, “if I’d been the one that was there.” The
jury took 20 minutes to convict Newton and recommended a 30 year sentence.
A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured his speed using radar and
photographed his car. He later received in the mail a
ticket for $40 and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of
$40. Several days later, he received a letter from the
police that contained another picture... of handcuff s.
The motorist promptly sent the money for the fi ne.
A woman was reporting her car as stolen, and mentioned that there was a car phone in it. The policeman
taking the report called the phone and told the guy
that answered that he had read the ad in the newspaper and wanted to buy the car. They arranged to meet,
and the thief was arrested.
Drug Possession Defendant Christopher Jansen,
on trial in March in Pontiac, Michigan, said he had
been searched without a warrant. The prosecutor said
the offi cer didn’t need a warrant because a “bulge” in
Christopher’s jacket could have been a gun. Nonsense,
said Christopher, who happened to be wearing the
same jacket that day in court. He handed it over so the
judge could see it. The judge discovered a packet of
cocaine in the pocket and laughed so hard he required
a fi ve minute recess to compose himself.
Detroit: R.C. Gaitlan, 21, walked up to two patrol
offi cers who were showing their squad car computer
equipment to children in a Detroit neighborhood.
When he asked how the system worked, the offi cer
asked him for identifi cation. Gaitlan gave them his
drivers license, they entered it into the computer, and
moments later they arrested Gaitlan because information on the screen showed Gaitlan was wanted for a
two-year-old armed robbery in St. Louis, Missouri.

An outstanding warrant resulted in
new felony drug charges for a Cushing
man Nov. 8.
On Nov. 1, two Payne County sheriff’s deputies went to the 400 block of
E. 44th to serve an outstanding warrant on John Fortney, 35, at his trailer
for buying pseudoephedrine following a methamphetamine conviction.
When the officers arrived, they saw
Fortney making methamphetamine in
the bathroom. He was in the gassing
process at the time, according to the
affidavit.
A search of the house turned up a gasser bottle under the bathroom counter and a bottle of drain opener. The bottle was made from
a 32 ounce Powerade bottle and had a hose on top, containing salt
and acid.
Fortney admitted to “gassing” the drug, saying he was “trying to
stir up a little more meth.” He also said there was a shake-and-bake
lab in his house, but it was inactive at the time. Fortney told the officers he gave the pseudoephedrine pills to someone else but would
point them in the direction to his contraband.
Fortney showed them a 20-ounce water bottle with salt inside, as
well as two packages of coffee filters, small bags, a spoon with methamphetamine residue, two straws and four syringes, one of which
had a clear liquid and diluted blood.
A deeper search of the house turned up several more labs in the
kitchen and master bedroom, according to the affidavit.
Fortney has five previous methamphetamine-related convictions
on his record and is currently serving a 15-year suspended sentence
as of December 2011.
Fortney remains in custody on a $50,000 bond. He has a court
date set for Dec. 3 at 9 a.m.

Today, I’m going to discuss who
has the biggest impact on our
new drivers that hit the road each
and every day. First, the Oklahoma Driver’s Education classes and
schools across the state are second to none, and do a fantastic job
of educating our young drivers on the law, and proper way to safely
operate a motor vehicle. I would like to point to some other folks, who
I believe have a far greater impact on how our youngsters approach
driving, and address them, and that is the adults who these young
drivers look up to: the parents, older siblings, and extended family.
If you fit in this category, please pay attention. I believe that our
kids learn their driving behavior not from the Oklahoma Highway
Patrol, other law enforcement, or driver’s education instructor, but
from you, the parents and family. I know I learned that way! Let me
give you some examples.
You are a dad, and for whatever reason, when you are driving in
town, or on a county road, you just don’t buckle up. Maybe its because
you don’t drive fast in these areas, or have a farm tag and just don’t
have to; however, you do buckle up when you get on highways or go
on long drives. The message you are sending is that when you are in
the vehicle there are certain times that it is ok not to wear your seat
belt. If dad doesn’t have to do it, I don’t either! In fact, at least 50%
of all accidents happen on county roads, and you are more likely to be
in an accident within 10 miles of your residence than otherwise. So
the real message you are sending is, don’t buckle up during the times
that you are most likely to need it!
Next, mom gets off work at 5:00, and one of the kids has a ball
game in another town at 5:30. She can get there if she speeds. After
all, it is important to get to those activities, and it won’t hurt to push
the speed just a little. The message you send to your kids is, its ok to
speed, as long as you can justify it! The facts are that unsafe speeds
kill more young people 16 to 25 than any other single thing! The
message here needs to be that its ok to slow down and show up a few
minutes late.....it is much better than the alternative, which is never
showing up at all because you’ve been involved in an accident.
Please remember, when you are driving, you are setting the example
for someone....and they are watching you all the time. What message
are you sending? I hope it’s the one that says, I’ll lead by example
because I love you, and want to do my part to keep you safe! Thanks

seriously injured or worse. His bond is set low
for what he did. Sadly unless some big changes
happen they won’t even throw a piece of paper at
him...

William Lewallen, a 47-year-old Tulsa
man, was jailed Nov. 11 after police found
three unattended, naked children on his
property. One child was found locked in a
dog cage, covered with feces.
According to police, officers were
dispatched to Lewallen’s residence after
a neighbor heard the screams of a child
who had been stripped naked and locked
outside in the cold while the boy’s father
was passed out inside.
Investigators say officers arrived at the
residence and could immediately hear a
child screaming from inside the residence.
While looking for an open entrance
into the house, officers came upon an
18-month-old girl who was naked, covered
in feces and locked inside a dog cage.
When the officers kicked in the home’s
back door, they encountered a second
naked child inside who seemed to be
unattended. A further sweep of the house
revealed a third naked child who was
asleep on a bed in the master bedroom.
Officers also found Lewallen who was
passed out next to
the child.
During a police
i n t e r v i e w ,
Lewallen stated
that he fell asleep
after ingesting
a combination
of pain meds, a
muscle relaxer
and anti-seizure
medication.
“The screaming child in the dog kennel
did not wake the defendant nor did the
officers kicking the door down to rescue
the toddler in the dog cage,” stated a police
arrest affidavit.
Officers also noted in their report that the
home had no heat (it was about 40 degrees
that day) and there was little food in the
house to eat.
Lewallen was booked into jail and charged
with felony child neglect. His bond has
been set at $50,000.

A group of Langston University students were arrested Nov. 11
following an altercation at an on-campus party.
Just before 2:20 a.m. that day, Langston University police officer
Louis Ross went to the Centennial Court apartments after receiving a noise complaint. Ross told the approximately 35 partygoers,
including Deandre King, 18, Jerome Tumblin, 19, and Isaiah McClain, 20.
McClain, Tumblin and King refused to return to their on-campus
residences following the party, according to the affidavit. They told
Ross they did not have to go home and began shouting “F--- the
police” at him. Deciding to take the hard way out, McClain said he
would hire his attorney and sue the university if the police touched
him.
Tumblin laughed, walked away from Ross and said he could be
outside of his apartment if he wanted.
Ross went back to the party apartment to talk to the residents,
but noticed the three men back there. Again the officer told them
to leave, but to no avail. McClain said he was filming their confrontation and again threatened to call his lawyer. At that point, Ross
asked McClain for his ID, but he refused to give it.
Soon after, Ross started walking toward Tumblin to talk to him.
However, King bumped into and pushed Ross away. King acknowledged the assault and offered no explanation, Ross said. During
the arrest, McClain said he would put his video of the incident on
YouTube.
Tumblin and McClain followed King to the Langston University
police station, where they were placed under arrest for disorderly
conduct, disturbing the peace and obstruction. King was additionally arrested for assault on a police officer. The group refused to
provide police with their student IDs until they were booked at the
Logan County Jail, according to the affidavit.
King was released on a $10,000 bond Nov. 19. He will appear in
court at 9 a.m. Jan. 7. Tumblin posted a $2,000 bond and has a
court date set for 9 a.m. on Valentine’s Day. McClain also posted a
$2,000 bond and will appear in court at 9 a.m. Jan. 10.

What The Bible Says About Drugs
Respect the drug laws of the land – Finding specific
reference to drugs in the Word of God is difficult. However,
the effects from illegal drugs and abuse of prescription
medication is obviously against the law of man. It is illegal,
therefore, as Christians and citizens, we are to respect the
laws of the land. God has put people in government positions
to make choices for the better of mankind (remains to be
determined if man has done a good job or not).
Altering our minds – We also know that in several places
throughout the Bible we are warned of the foolishness of
altering our minds by way
of alcohol. In 1 Peter 2:11,
we are to abstain from
the passions of the flesh,
which wage war against our
soul. Therefore, anything
that causes us to destroy
ourselves, obviously should
be avoided. This could
be interpreted as drugs,
alcohol, sexual immorality,
gluttony, etc.

A Crescent man and ex-con faces burglary charges following his
arrest Nov. 16.
Crescent police chief Kalon Barnett was speaking with two women when he noticed Aaron Christopher, 19, sitting in the library for
a minute that day. About 15 minutes into his visit with the women,
dispatch called Barnett and told him Christopher had just broken
into one of the women’s houses.
Barnett and the women went to the home but did not see anyone
else. However, one of the women said she had just seen Christopher run away wearing a black jacket and gray sweatpants. Barnett
and other officers drove to Christopher’s home, where he stepped
out onto the porch in a brown shirt and black shorts.
Christopher said he was just about to leave his house, but Barnett thought it was unusual to see him running anywhere. The man said he had just gotten
back from the Shell gas station, knocked on the woman’s door and came home once he realized no one was there. A relative of Christopher’s produced the jacket and sweatpants he had
just taken off, leading to his arrest.
Christopher faces charges of second-degree burglary and remains in custody.
The state filed an application to revoke his deferred sentence following his arrest. Christopher is on an eight-year probation sentence as of June 8 for possession of a controlled
substance, placing bodily fluids on a government employee, assault on a police officer and
injury to property.
For his most recent charges, Christopher has a court date set for 9 a.m. Jan. 24.

A Stroud woman was taken into custody after she nearly ran over several
children trick-or-treating Halloween
night.
Shelly Williams, 37, was charged
Nov. 15 with assault and battery upon
a police officer, aggravated DUI, and
resisting an officer in Lincoln County
District Court.
According to the police affidavit,
Stroud Police Officer Aaron Keeling
was dispatched to the area of 6th and
Central on a call about a white Pontiac
driving erratically and almost hitting
some kids trick-or-treating. The reporting party told dispatch the woman inside the car was traveling
at a high rate of speed and driving through yards.
When Keeling arrived in the area, he saw the Pontiac on Central
going way too fast and swerving into the grassy areas along the side
the road. The car then traveled up into a yard at 4th and Central.
Keeling activated his emergency lights and the car came to a stop
at 4th and Oak. When he got out of his patrol vehicle, he heard a man
behind him yelling at the woman inside the Pontiac, who was later
identified as Williams. Keeling told the man to get back in his vehicle just as Williams was getting out of hers. She began screaming
and cussing back at the man, and then started running at the officer.
Keeling told her to stop, but to no avail.
About that time, other officers arrived to assist. Williams pushed,
grabbed, and elbowed officers in an attempt to get free from them, so
they were forced to use pepper spray to subdue her.
In the patrol vehicle, Williams claimed she had taken two Xanax
and a Loritab earlier, but had not had any alcohol. She was then
transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
