On Jan. 15, 1977, the nude body
of 20 year-old Bernice Kuhlman
was found in Polecat Creek near
the bridge at 10300 S. 33 W. Ave.
in Tulsa. Kuhlman was last seen by
friends the night of Jan. 14, 1977. The
State Medical Examiners Offi ce ruled
the manner of death as Homicide,
cause of death being strangulation.
Bernice Kuhlman’s case remains
unsolved.
In each Homicide case, the victim
can no longer speak for themselves.
We must act as their voice, seeking justice on their behalf. The
truth about each case is out there; someone knows who committed

A former OSU football player was
booked in the Payne County Jail June
21 for two counts of second-degree
forgery.
Herschel Sims, 20, admitted
in a police interview to stealing a
teammate’s green card, going to
a Stillwater National Bank and
withdrawing $700 using the green
card and forged signatures.
The teammate, a freshman who
enrolled early at OSU, reported in midMay that someone illegally accessed
his bank account at the end of April. A look at a surveillance
photo showed Sims stealing from his teammate in two separate
transactions, police said. Sims withdrew $500 in one transaction,
then returned to the same bank and withdrew $200 more a few
hours later, according to an affidavit.
The victim did not report the theft for three weeks in hopes
that Sims would pay him back, but when it became clear that the
money was gone for good, he told authorities.
Sims was cut from the team in June after the allegations
surfaced. He also withdrew from OSU and will attend school in
Texas.
After he was charged, he told his high school coach that it was
a result of a miscommunication over money.
Unfortunately for OSU, Sims was considered one of the top
running backs of his year. However, he had a history of discipline
issues, starting with inappropriate use of social media, during
which he complained about a lack of playing time.
Now, instead of playing time, Sims has to worry about up to 14
years of prison time, which he could face if convicted.
Sims posted a $1,000 bond immediately after he was booked.
A preliminary hearing will be set July 11.

A Stillwater man is behind bars
after attempting to off two of his
relatives June 25.
David Gene Ross, 61, was arrested
after a juvenile called the Payne
County Sheriff’s Office reporting
that he shot two people just west of
Stillwater.
One of the victims, Ross’ nephew,
was sitting in the living room in a
home on 32nd Street when Ross
approached him, told him to stand
still and then shot him in the arm with
a pistol, according to an affidavit.
Once the gun went off, his fiancée and the juvenile witness
tried to disarm Ross, but the man only shot the male victim
again and gave his future wife a gunshot wound to her jaw.
Ross then threw his .38 caliber revolver in the yard, where
deputies found it. They also found two shot shells covered with
fresh blood.
Payne County Sheriff’s Captain Mark Woodward said the

Ross’ nephew will undergo surgery in Tulsa to repair his facial
wounds. His fiancée was released from OU Medical Center
June 28.
Both victims filed separate protective orders against Ross
in Payne County July 3. Associate District Judge Katherine
Thomas issued both orders.
Ross was charged June 28 with two counts of assault with a
deadly weapon. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Ross remains in jail on a $100,000 bond. He pleaded not
guilty July 2. Thomas ordered that all firearms be removed
from his home and that he not communicate with the victims.
He will next appear in court at 1:30 p.m. August 13.

As gas prices have risen,
many people have turned to
alternative methods of travel from
automobiles. The most common
one is a bicycle.
There are also many bicyclist enthusiasts that ride for pleasure, as
is evidenced by the number of bicycle events across the state, as well
as the number of bicycle clubs that can be found. Since motorists
share the road with them, I’m going to share some tips for the safe
operation of bicycles, and some of the rules everyone should know!
First, wear a helmet! This one is just common sense. It is a fact that
helmets help prevent serious injury resulting from bicycle accidents.
Next, its important to note Oklahoma State Statute 47-11-1202,
which states: Every person riding a bicycle or motorized scooter upon
a roadway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all
of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle by this title, except as
to special regulations in this article and except to those provisions of
this title which by their nature can have no application. Simply put,
bicyclists are entitled to the road just like vehicles, and have to abide
by the same laws, with a few extras.
One of these extras is that bicyclists must ride as close as is safe
to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except under certain
conditions. Some of those conditions are when overtaking or passing
another conveyance going the same direction, when preparing for or
making a left hand turn, when necessary to avoid certain conditions
such as moving or fixed objects, parked or moving vehicles,
pedestrians or animals, surface hazards, and a few other reasons. A
complete list of the exceptions can be found in Oklahoma State
Statute 47-11-1205. That statute also states that bicyclists may only
ride two abreast except on paths or roadways set aside exclusively
for bicycle use. The majority of problems that arise from bicyclists
has to do with riding more than two abreast, inhibiting the ability of
vehicles to pass large groups. Also, on multi-laned roads, they must
ride within a single lane. Another thing to know is that bicyclists
can’t pass between vehicles on multi-laned roadways.
Not only do bicyclists have some extra rules to follow, but vehicles
have a duty in regards to bicyclists sharing the road. When a vehicle
is overtaking and passing bicycles going in the same direction, they
must leave a safe distance between the vehicle and bicycle of no
less than three feet until the vehicle is safely past the bicycle. The
majority of complaints from bicyclists about vehicles is that vehicles
pass far too closely to the bicyclists. Adhering to this safe distance is
a must for the safety of all!
The best way for bicycles and vehicles to safely share the road is for
the operators to respect the rights of each other. As always, thanks

Oklahoma City police arrest a metro man for assaulting a
turtle.
Neighbors in Southwest Oklahoma City apparently called
police after seeing Derrick Peace pick up the tortoise and
throw it into the street. It landed with so much force, it’s shell
cracked.
Police say the turtle was taken to the Oklahoma City Zoo so
it could recover.

who said nothing during his sentencing hearing,
showed no emotion when the judge set a December
2008 execution date. That date was essentially
meaningless because all death penalty cases are
appealed automatically. Postelle, 22, was convicted
by a jury on Sept. 9, 2008, of killing James “Donnie”
Swindle Jr., Amy Wright, Terry Smith and James
Alderson. Two days later, the Oklahoma County
jury that heard evidence in the case decided Postelle
should die for killing Wright and Alderson and
spend the rest of his life in prison without the
possibility of parole for killing Swindle and Smith.

An Edmond woman faces a felony
DUI charge after getting into a one-car
rollover accident in Logan County.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper
Vernon Brake arrested Laurie Ann
Holmes, 43, after being dispatched to
the accident June 28.
Holmes’ yellow two-door Chevrolet
was partially in the roadway at the
time. She said she swerved to avoid
hitting a squirrel, lost control of her car
and rolled over, but Brake noticed she
was highly intoxicated and gave her a
field sobriety test.
She said she did not have drinks for an hour before driving, but
stopped midway through her sobriety test and said she was drunk,
according to an affidavit. She also had glassy eyes, was unsteady
on her feet and reeked strongly of alcohol, Brake said.
The woman was then taken to the Logan County Jail, where she
blew a .14 and .13 blood alcohol concentration, which proved her
earlier statements correct.
Holmes was convicted of a DUI in Custer County in September
2005 and given a one-year suspended sentence. In that case, she
was driving under the influence of drugs and was also charged
with possession of drug paraphernalia.
She also has three convictions of driving under suspension and
pleaded no contest to using bogus checks in 2007. She wrote a hot
check for $27 at Mark’s Short Stop in Logan County and refused to
pay the money after the check was returned. For the bogus check
charge, she was given a one-year suspended sentence.
If convicted of a felony DUI, she faces up to five years in prison.
Holmes posted a $2,500 bond June 29. She will appear in court
at 2 p.m. August 23.

Ex-con burglarizes, trashes woman’s home
A convicted felon faces more time in
lockup after destroying a woman’s home
in Guthrie June 25.
Douglas Clayton Watson, 30, entered a
home on Rabbit Run Street, threw items
around the residence to the point where
officers did not know where to start
taking photographs.
“The entire inside of the residence
was in complete disarray,” said Logan
County sheriff’s deputy Peter Wagner.
“The description provided within my
report cannot explain the full extent of
the damage.”
Watson stuck steak knives in the walls
of the home, stole a television, urinated on the woman’s clothing,
put dirt over clothes and sheets in her master bedroom, ripped
clothes from hangers and poured bottles of chemicals on clothes in
her bathtub, Wagner said. He also threw food all over the kitchen
and stuck a knife into the victim’s counter top. The front door had a
deadbolt lock, so Watson used a bar to break into the back door.
After she reported the burglary and property damage, the victim
showed Wagner a text from Watson, saying “F---ing really woman…I
already took a bat to everything”, according to an affidavit.
Watson also broke the windows of the victim’s vehicle in May, court
records show.
Logan County judge Louis Duel issued a warrant for Watson’s
arrest June 26. He was arrested the next day and jailed on a $30,000
bond, which was lowered to $8,500 upon his first court appearance.
Watson was convicted of felony DUI in February 10 and given a
four-year prison sentence. He was imprisoned from July 2010 to
December 2011. He was also convicted of assault with a dangerous
weapon in 2002, public intoxication in 2006 and petty larceny in
2007. In the larceny case, he pleaded guilty to stealing a 24-pack of
Coors light from a convenience store.
Watson faces charges of second-degree burglary and malicious
injury to property. He posted bond June 27 and will appear in court
at 2 p.m. August 23.

There are a lot of situations where slang is a
bad idea; and asking for “dough” at a pizza joint is
certainly a good example. Funny enough though,
the robbers who made off with a bagful of dough
weren’t even victims of a bad pun, they were just
stupid enough to point to a bag behind the counter without verifying that the bag held money instead of pizza ingredients. The moral of the story
is that when holding someone up, you’re much
better off asking them to hand over the cash than
simply pointing to a random bag in the store.
“That’s not mine” just might be one of the oldest excuses in the book when it comes to illicit
substances. While plenty of suspects have tried
to say their drug stash belonged to their friends,
most of them weren’t stupid enough to say it
about crack in their butt crack. Even if it was his
friend’s crack, it certainly was under his “control”
at the time of the arrest, and that’s all that really
matters.
There’s a reason real drug dealers have such a
vicious reputation to uphold. After all, if someone takes their supply, it’s not like they can just
call the police. Amateur drug cultivators aren’t
always hip to these rules, which is why it’s not
entirely surprising that a small-time marijuana
grower called the police when someone stole one
of his prized plants. The police responded to the
crime immediately –by confi scating his four remaining plants.
Robbing a store is a big gamble. Aside from the
risk of getting caught, there’s also a risk that there
won’t be much money in the register at the time.
If you lose that gamble and end up only getting
$586 in the hold up (which is actually pretty decent for a Wendy’s), you probably shouldn’t call
the store to complain. One man learned this the
hard way after police tracked him down when
he called a second time to tell the workers they’d
better have more money in the register the next
time he robs them.

A former Stroud kindergarten teacher
and high school cheerleading coach has
been charged with one count of Lewd
or Indecent Proposals or Acts to a Child
Under 16.
Mandi Layne Guerrero, 34, turned
herself in at the Lincoln County Jail
June 19 on a warrant. Her bond was set
at $5,000.
The Stroud Police Department was
contacted April 12 about a possible sex
crime involving a ninth-grade female
student at Stroud High School.
A “family member,” reportedly her mother, found letters
that appeared to show an inappropriate relationship going on
between the 15-year-old girl and Guerrero.
Stroud Police requested Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation Agents investigate the allegation.
According to the affidavit, the relationship between Guerrero
and the girl began in January. The girl told investigators she and
Guerrero began what she felt was “a boyfriend” like relationship.
They contacted each other by cell phone and passing letters, and
they kissed and rubbed each other several times in the school
gym and in Guerrero’s car near the girl’s home.
Guerrero told the girl she loved her, and also expressed her
love through letters stating, “I miss you so much,” “I just sit
and wonder what you’re doing,” and “Every time I see you with
someone, I want it to be me.”
Guerrero also expressed jealousy in her letters when the girl
was with other people by writing, “Since I don’t have you to
myself, I have to deal with being jealous,” and “I hate that I can’t
stop and just let you be with your friends without me freaking
out.”
The letters also touched on the subject of their physical
relationship. Guerrero wrote, “I love hugging your neck and
touching your face.”
Guerrero resigned her positions at Stroud Public Schools
shortly after the allegations surfaced, but she was reportedly not
the girl’s teacher.
At the conclusion of the OSBI investigation, agents delivered a
comprehensive report to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s
Office. The District Attorney’s Office determined a charge of
Lewd or Indecent Proposals or Acts to a Child Under 16 was
appropriate.
A continuance in the matter was set for August 20 at 1:30 p.m.

A Lincoln County Judge slapped a very
drunk and very mad Davenport man with
a $50,000 bond after he told three people,
including a police officer, that he would run
over and kill them with his pickup truck.
Officer Patrick Taylor was dispatched to
a home in Davenport June 7 about a man
threatening the victim by telephone that he
was going to run through her home with his
truck and kill her son.
When Taylor arrived at the home, she told
him that Billie Joe Williamson, 50, had been
calling her for the last couple of hours and
threatening her. While they were talking, her phone ran, and lo and
behold, it was Williamson.
The victim put Williamson on speaker and the officer could hear a
male voice yelling and screaming profanities at her. Taylor stopped
Williamson and told him who he was and to stop calling the woman,
threatening her with violence.
“I don’t care who you are,” Williamson screamed, “I’ll run over you
and kill you!”
“Do you realize threats of violence is a felony?” Taylor asked.
“I’m already a convicted felon!” Williamson replied.
A couple of hours later, Taylor was on patrol when he spotted Williamson’s truck. He pulled his patrol car in behind Williamson, who
then turned without signaling. Taylor initiated his emergency lights
and the truck stopped. Williamson got out of the truck and started
walking, very unsteadily, toward Taylor.
Taylor could immediately smell the strong odor of booze on Williamson’s breath and placed him under arrest. While checking William’s truck, Taylor found a .22 caliber rifle in the rear passenger
compartment’s floor board.
Williamson was then transported to Stroud Hospital where they
drew blood and then escorted to the Lincoln County Jail where he
faces charges of possession of a firearm AFFC, DUI, and harassing
and threatening by electronic communication.
His pre-preliminary hearing is set for July 26.

Marchette
Jamison Marchette, a 41-year-old Oklahoma man was jailed after he
allegedly left sex toys and porn materials on two women’s doors, prowled
around their apartments and peeped through a woman’s back door.
According to police, two Oklahoma City women were freaked out when
they discovered bags on their front doors that contained sex toys, porn
videos and other obscene materials.
Investigators called to the scene discovered footprints and other evidence that someone had been prowling around the women’s apartment
residences.
A strange man who called himself “Jamie” reportedly contacted one of
the victims and told her that he had seen a “brown-skinned male” walking
around their apartments taking photographs.
About a week after the incidents, one woman found Marchette close enough to her patio door
to “fog it up when he would breath,” according to the arrest report. When the woman opened the
door, Marchette reportedly fled the porch and hid behind a cluster of bushes.
Detectives took the items left behind and had them analyzed for fingerprints. A set of prints
lifted from the items were traced to Marchette.
A woman was also able to identify Marchette as the man who knocked on her door and identified himself as “Jamie.”
Marchette was booked into jail and charged with two counts of distribution of obscene materials and one count of loitering around the residence to watch an occupant.
