all in the family
Johnny Stephen Brown, 44, allegedly fired
shots at multiple people after committing a
burglary on November 16.
He was able to briefly escape, but officers
located and arrested him just two days later.
According to reports, Brown burglarized
his wife’s home on Coker Road in Pottawatomie County shortly before noon. The victim’s
grandfather stopped by the residence and
didn’t recognize Brown, but later thought to
call his granddaughter to see what was going
on. She later called her brother, and he and
his dad headed toward her house.
The men made contact with Brown, who
was driving a truck pulling a trailer. The men
chased after Brown in attempt to stop him.
Near the end of Highway 39 and Coker Road, Brown allegedly fired multiple
shots at the men, barely missing the victim’s brother.
According to reports, a bullet went through the window of the man’s vehicle, blowing glass in his face.
Deputies reported that the chase lasted for approximately two miles and
ended near Leo Road. Brown abandoned his truck near some woods.
Brown was later arrested on the morning of November 18 for the incident.
Asher officers found him walking on U.S. Highway 177 in Asher at approximately 10:30 a.m. According to reports, he was armed with two guns when
officers took him into custody.
Brown is being charged with shooting with intent to kill, possession of firearms after former conviction of felony and possession of firearm while committing a felony. His bond was set at $250,000.

WHAT IS SUBSTANCE
ABUSE TREATMENT LIKE?
Everyone entering treatment
for a substance use disorder is
unique. That is why the patient
and the treatment staff work
together to develop an individualized treatment plan. It may
include some type of behavioral treatment (“talk therapy”)
designed to engage the patient in the treatment process, alter destructive
attitudes and behaviors related to drug use, and increase healthy life skills.
Behavioral treatment can also enhance the effectiveness of medications that
might be available and help patients stay in treatment longer.
Treatment for substance use disorders can be delivered in many different
settings using a variety of different approaches. The following treatments are
a few of many:
• detoxification (the process by which the body rids itself of a drug)
• behavioral counseling
• medication (for opioid, tobacco, or alcohol addiction)
• evaluation and treatment for co-occurring mental health issues such as
depression and anxiety
• long-term follow-up to prevent relapse
A range of care with a tailored treatment program and follow-up options
can be crucial to success. Treatment should include both medical and mental
health services as needed. Follow-up care may include community- or family-based recovery support systems.

Mohammad Ashan, believed to be a low-level member of the Taliban, turned himself
in in order to collect the reward for his own capture. The reward was apparently about
$100.
Michael Fuller went to Walmart and tried to buy a vacuum, a microwave and a few
other items. The cashier knew that Fuller was up to no good when he attempted to
pay for his purchases with a $1 million bill.
Lukasz Chojnowski reportedly broke into an elderly couple’s home while they were
away on vacation. When the couple returned home, they found Lukasz sleeping in
their bed, earning him the nickname “Goldilocks” in the press. Reportedly, Lukasz did
such a good job of tidying up the house and reorganizing it that the couple offered to
hire him as their butler.
Logan James decided to play a game of cat and mouse with the local police department, posting “catch me if you can” on the department’s Facebook page. Well,
shortly after James posted his poorly thought out comment, the police did just that;
they caught him and booked him.
Klaus Schmidt tried to rob a bank. Unfortunately, Klaus is deaf and couldn’t hear the
alarm blaring as he attempted to clean out the place. He didn’t hear the police coming,
and the whole thing was an epic fail.
John Pearce was attempting to burglarize a home when he got his foot caught
in a bay window. He was left dangling there for about 30 minutes before police and
paramedics arrived.
Tiffany Campbell and John Arwood were apparently on a lot of meth when they
wound up hiding in a janitor’s college at Daytona State College in Florida. Apparently,
Campbell and Arwood thought they were locked in the closet, so they stayed there for
two days before finally calling the police. As it turns out, the closet was unlocked the
entire time. Apparently, meth makes things very confusing.
Joey Miller and Matthew McNeilly reportedly broke into several apartments while in
deep disguise. Evidently, when the police pulled them over, they still had their permanent-marker disguises scribbled on their faces.
Gary Rough held up a bookmaker’s in Scotland with what the clerk believed to be a
firearm. As it turns out, it was a cucumber with a sock on it. Rough earned a 40-month
sentence for his produce-related crime.
A lady in Costa Rica attempted to steal a flat screen TV by putting it up her dress,
between her legs. Apparently, store employees noticed that something about the
woman looked off.
Dorian Walker-Gaines and Dillan Thompson stole an iPad and some other belongings from a man’s truck in Houston. The two then posted some celebratory selfies,
which made it easy for police to apprehend them, thanks to the owner’s iCloud.
Darren Kimpton reportedly attempted to rob a house that was full of police. He had
reportedly just robbed the home, and investigators were still at the premises when
Kimpton decided to strike again.
Andrew Hennells posted on Facebook that he was planning to rob a Tesco store.
A few minutes later, he did exactly that. He certainly made things easier for the police.

gotcha!
A McIntosh County fugitive was taken
into custody in Hughes County after an
observant officer found drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Kenneth Wayne Darnell, 53, of Omaha,
Arkansas, has been charged with trafficking in illegal drugs, possession of a
controlled dangerous substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia,
in Hughes County District Court.
Darnell also has an outstanding warrant
in McIntosh County for failure to pay on
possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.
According to the Hughes County Sheriff’s office, Deputy Kendra Goodwin made a traffic stop on November 19 that resulted in the seizure of 72 grams of methamphetamine.
Deputy Goodwin was assisted by Deputy Kent Dowell, Wetumka Chief
of Police Joe Chitwood, and WPD K9 Paska.
The charge for trafficking is punishable by imprisonment for four
years to life and a fine of up to $200,000 or both. The possession
charges are punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year
and by a fine not exceeding $1000 or both.
Bond for Darnell was set at $100,000 and he was ordered back to
court December 29 for his status conference hearing.

who’s zoomin’ who?
An 18-year-old Wewoka man was
locked up after he sped past the police
department on November 21.
Canyon Gage Stafford told police he was
just trying to get away from his girl’s exboyfriend.
A Seminole officer was in the police department parking lot in the 900 block of N.
Harvey around 6:30 p.m. when he heard
a motorcycle zoom past at a high rate of
speed. He saw the motorcycle traveling
south on Harvey – it appeared to be going
about 90-100 mph in a 50-mph zone.
The officer pursued the bike and turned on his lights as they
turned east onto Broadway. The man on the bike, later identified as
Stafford, looked back at the officers, then accelerated.
According to the police report, they reached speeds of approximately 120 mph.
The officer followed the motorcycle to the intersection of 125
Road – he was then told to stop the pursuit. A short time later, he
was advised that a Seminole County deputy had stopped the motorcycle.
The officer went to the scene at Highway 270 and Highway 270
Business and positively identified the suspect as the motorcyclist
he’d been chasing. The officer placed Stafford under arrest and put
him in the patrol car.
Stafford told the officer that his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend had been
chasing him in a black truck. That didn’t explain why he didn’t stop
when he saw red and blue lights flashing behind him, and the officer
advised him of that. He told the man that if someone was chasing
him, the right thing to have done was to stop and advise the officer,
not accelerate.
Stafford is being charged with endangering others while eluding/
attempting to elude police and reckless driving. He was released
on a $618 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December
21, 2017.

Floyd Preston Miller, III, 38, of Ada, was arraigned in federal court on November 21 on charges of Enticement of a Minor using the Internet.
The Indictment alleges that from in or about
November 2015, the exact date being unknown
to the Grand Jury, until on or about February 8,
2016, Miller did use a facility and means of interstate commerce, the Internet, to attempt to knowingly persuade, induce, and entice an individual
whom he believed was 15 years old, to engage
in sexual activity for which a person can be criminally charged under Oklahoma State law.
The charges are a result of an investigation by
the North Las Vegas Police Department and the
Federal Bureau of Investigation.
If convicted, Miller faces not less than 10 years imprisonment, and up
to a $250,000 fine or both, and an additional term of Supervised Release
up to Life.

DEPUTIES SIT DOWN FOR LUNCH, FIND
FUGITIVE EATING NEXT TO THEM
AROUND THE NATION
While deputies with the Perry County (Tennessee) Sheriff’s Office were out to lunch,
they noticed something that turned a lunch
break into deputies making an arrest.
“We finally slowed down enough to eat
lunch, me and several other of the guys. And
while we were eating, we noticed a known
fugitive that we’ve actually been looking for,”
said Tony Eversole, the Perry County Sherriff’s Office chief deputy.
Eversole said Neil Martin was eating lunch
at the Captain D’s in Hazard, Kentucky right
across from him. He said that Martin is wanted in multiple states for fraudulent business
reasons.
“We had been actively looking for him for several months,” said Eversole.
“He’s wanted by four or five states.”
Eversole said that they did not know how Martin would react, so they let
him finish his meal and waited for him to leave the building.
“We let him eat so we wouldn’t cause any trouble inside the restaurant, and
then we got up as he left and followed him outside and made the arrest in the
parking lot,” said Eversole.
Deputies say that although it was a serious situation, they made a little light
of it after the arrest.
“We wanted to know if he was going to order his dessert to go,” said Eversole.
Martin is being held in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.

making things worse
Tupelo man Kevin Carter Kieckhefer, 28,
was already in enough trouble when he was
arrested on November 21, but he just had to
go make things worse.
The man was on his way to jail when he
seemed to think it would be a good idea to
attack a police officer – he must like racking
up those charges!
According to the police report, an Ada officer arrested the man at approximately 9:30
p.m. and transported him to jail because he
had a probation violation out of Coal County. When they arrived at the jail, Kieckhefer
seemed to be having trouble getting out of
the backseat of the patrol car, so the officer
told the man he was going to help him.
The officer grabbed the man’s right shoulder and helped him get out of the
vehicle. In a show of his “thanks,” Kieckhefer reared back and headbutted
the officer in the right temple area. The officer stumbled back, which caused
Kieckhefer to fall into him.
Kieckhefer wasn’t satisfied with just the headbutt, though. He kept charging the officer, so the officer took him to the ground. Kieckhefer continued to
fight and struggle while on the ground.
A jail employee witnessed the incident and helped the officer gain control
of the disorderly man.
In addition to what he was originally arrested for, Kieckhefer is being charged
with assault and battery on police officer. His bond was set at $25,000, and
he was scheduled to appear in court on December 7, 2017.
