no Payoffs allowed
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Harassing your former employer is
no way to jump back into the job market.
Times are hard and the job market
isn't great, but threatening your former employer is no way to go about
job searching.
A disgruntled ex-employee apparently thought that it would be a good
idea to call his former employer and
leave voicemails that included derogatory words and threats.
It wasn't.
According to the affidavit, a man
contacted the Pottawatomie County
Sheriff's Officer after he fired one of his employees on May 8.
Police were informed that the ex-employee, Konawa man Harold
Lloyd Swarb Jr., 33, was drinking alcohol and possibly plotting his
revenge for the termination. Apparently, Swarb had been making
threatening and harassing telephone calls to his ex-boss.
A deputy went to the residence of Swarb's former employer to
find out exactly what Swarb had been doing.
The man told the deputy that he had received two phone calls
from Swarb since he terminated Swarb's employment earlier that
day. On one of the calls, Swarb left a voicemail that had some
choice words for the former employer, including, "You gonna fire
someone, you better give a [expletive] good reason." The message
included less-that-flattering names for the employer and a threat
that Swarb promised, "I'll make sure that you do it."
The message ended with, "Have a good day."
Another message left by Swarb accused the former employer of
being unfaithful to his wife. The message appeared to have been
directed toward the wife.
Swarb is being charged with harassment by telephone. He was
released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
July 3, 2014.
Not having a good day

FAILURE TO REGISTER AS SEX
OFFENDER
Shawnee man Gerald Del Springer, 37,
learned that it's not wise to throw a beer can
at a woman in front of a police officer as he
was being arrested for domestic violence on
May 6.
According to the affidavit, a Shawnee officer was walking toward his car in the parking lot of the police station when he heard
the loud squeal of car tires approaching
him. He saw a white car pull into a parking lot at a high rate of speed. The vehicle
came to a stop, and the officer saw a male
passenger pulling the female driver's hair and yelling at her. The officer grabbed his gun and ordered the passenger, later identified as
Springer, to get out of the vehicle.
The officer had to repeat the command several times before Springer finally dragged himself out of the car. He made sure to throw a can
at the driver before doing so, however.
He acted aggressive toward the officer, so the officer placed him in
the patrol car.
The victim told the officer that Springer had come home earlier
that morning and started accusing her of things.
She said she tried to leave, but Springer jumped in the vehicle and
demanded that she take him to get some beer.
As soon as he purchased the beer, the victim said he got back in the
car and started drinking. He then told her to take him to his friend's
house so he could confront him, but the victim started driving toward the police station instead. When she started to turn into the
parking lot of the police station, Springer started pulling her hair.
The couple's 8-month-old child was in the backseat during the assault.
Springer is being charged with domestic assault and battery in
presence of minor. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on May 30, 2014.
Can you please
calm down?

If you have experienced
criticism or cruelty because of
your faith, Jesus explains why:
“’If the world hates you, keep in
mind that it hated me first. If you
belonged to the world, it would
love you as its own. As it is, you
do not belong to the world, but I
have chosen you out of the world.
That is why the world hates you.’”
(John 15:18-19, NIV)
Despite the discrimination we face as Christians, Jesus reveals
what we need to know to keep going:
“’And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
(Matthew 28:20, NIV)

ELUDING POLICE OFFICER
Wewoka police say they arrested
24-year-old Nicole Michelle Grizzle,
of Seminole, after she reportedly stole
items from a local store and tried to
smuggle them out in her purse.
According to the affidavit, however,
she didn't do a very good job of getting the items out of the store in her
handbag.
On May 7, police responded to a call
in the 200 block of S. Wewoka Avenue.
A store employee told police that
when Grizzle entered the store, her
purse appeared to be flat. When she
left the store, the employee said that Grizzle's purse was bulging
with items.
Grizzle was still in her vehicle parked in front of the store.
When police made contact with her, she initially denied stealing
any items and told them that she had a receipt for the items she
purchased.
After police asked to look in her purse, she eventually admitted to
taking the items. In her purse, police found several items totaling
$46.70, including roach killer, gold star stickers, dice, a T-shirt and
a cigarette lighter.
An officer retrieved the items and returned them to the store.
While speaking with Grizzle, police noticed that she appeared to
be under the influence of some kind of intoxicant. She was slow in
responding to officer requests, and she kept making twitching moments. When police asked her to retrieve something in her vehicle,
she opened her mouth and squinted her eyes as though she was in
pain, even though the items were easily within her reach.
Grizzle is being charged with larceny of merchandise from retailed
and actual physical control of vehicle while under the influence. She
is being held in lieu of a $7,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in
court on June 3, 2014.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Oh, to be young again…
Police have arrested a high school sophomore after they learned she gave them a false
name and is actually 31 years old.
KLTV reported the Longview, Texas, investigation found Charity Anne Johnson is 31.
Johnson was enrolled at New Life Christian
School as “Charity Stevens.”
School officials said a person claiming to be
her guardian brought her to enroll.
She gave the school a fake birth date that
would have made her 15.
The school discovered her false identity Tuesday.
She has been at student at the school since October 2013.
Resident Tamica Lincoln said Charity told her she was 15 and needed a place to stay back in March.
“I sympathized with her and invited her into my home,” Lincoln told
KLTV. “I took her in as a child, did her hair, got her clothes and shoes.”
Lincoln said Charity claimed she was abused by her biological father
and that her mother was dead.
Lincoln told KLTV she acted as Charity’s guardian and even met
with Charity’s 10th grade teachers at New Life Christian School.
“I just don’t know why she did it,” Lincoln said. “Why put yourself
and others at risk to do something like this? I have deep concerns
about her being who, we don’t know she is, and then she’s out there
at the school.”
Lincoln said she called police and went straight to the school as soon
as soon as she realized Charity was using a fake identity.
“Teachers were crying and students were crying and her best friend
just couldn’t believe it,” Lincoln said.
Johnson was arrested for failure to identify/giving false, fictitious
information.
KLTV said she is in the Gregg County Jail on $500 bond.

Recent Arrests For Okfuskee County
Two Okfuskee County men are facing assault charges after they beat a man with a
crow bar and a small bat.
Gary Wind, 32, and Jonathan Johnson, 23,
both of Okemah, each face a felony charge of
assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Wind was additionally charged with a
misdemeanor public intoxication.
According to the probable cause affidavit,
deputies were called to a rural area in Okfuskee County on May 6 to a report of an assault. When they arrived, they saw the victim pretty banged up from multiple injuries.
The victim said he was attacked by Wind and Johnson; Wind had a small bat
and Johnson had a crowbar.
The victim was then transported to the hospital.
Deputies went to a home outside Okemah to look for Wind and Johnson,
but neither were there. A woman inside the house called Wind, but he said his
truck had been stolen and he was on foot and lost behind the lake. After a short
search of the area, they found Wind about half a mile away from the residence.
Wind admitted he had been drinking, but he was not the one who had assaulted the victim, Johnson was. He also claimed Johnson stole his truck.
Wind went on to say that he was just protecting the woman the deputy spoke
to earlier from the victim, even though the woman had a protective order on
the victim. The deputy advised that the protective order was in place for them
to protect her, not him, and she was not in any imminent danger.
Wind was then taken to the Okfuskee County Jail, and Johnson was picked
up May 20 on an assault warrant.
Johnson is scheduled to appear on July 3 for his preliminary hearing conference, and Wind is scheduled for July 10.

AG’s Statement on Execution Review
“It is important to review the events
surrounding the execution of Clayton
Lockett to ascertain what transpired
and to ensure the death penalty is
administered correctly. It’s equally
important that any such review
be conducted with a commitment
to objectivity. Transparency and
impartiality in the fact-fi nding
surrounding this execution will give
Oklahomans confi dence and lend
credibility to the state’s most solemn of
duties: carrying out the sentence of death.
As the state’s chief legal offi cer, and to ensure the fair administration
of justice, I am taking the following actions:
• Assigning investigators from the Attorney General’s
Offi ce to work with DPS Commissioner Michael Thompson as he
gathers information on the execution of Lockett;
• Designating a special advisor(s) to assess the results of
the review of Lockett’s execution, and Department of Corrections’
procedures, and then to recommend, if necessary, any changes
surrounding such issues;
• Instructing my staff to work with lawmakers on any
relevant legislative proposals emanating from the review;
• Ensuring victims’ concerns in the process are addressed.
Integrity and fairness are core values of Oklahomans, and my
offi ce is committed to upholding those values as we conduct this

unsolved cases
Mary Elizabeth Morgan Pewitt, 25, was found inside her
residence in Comanche, OK on June 4, 1988. A divorced
mother of two, Mary worked at a local bar and had closed the
establishment around midnight June 3. After driving over to the
bar owner’s house where she dropped off the day’s proceeds, she
returned home where she was met by a boyfriend. Mary and her
boyfriend visited for a short while before he left the residence,
becoming the last person known to have seen her alive. It was
shortly after the boyfriend’s departure that investigators believe
someone entered the house and viciously stabbed Mary to
death. Mary had recently been involved in a volatile relationship
regarding child support. On the night she was murdered, Mary’s
children were not at the home because they had spent the night with Mary’s parents. The
OSBI did not enter the case until 1997 when the agency asked to assist the Comanche
Police Department.
Mary’s family is holding an event June 4, 2014 in Comanche at Jackson Park. It is a
celebration of Mary’s life and a rally for justice for her. For more info on the event, and to
sign a petition, go to Change.org and search Mary Pewitt.
If you have any information on this case, please call the OSBI at (405) 848-6724 or the
Comanche Police Dept. at (580) 439-2211.

It's funny how some men think they are bad enough to hit
a woman, yet they become scared and hide from the police.
A Holdenville man barricaded himself in his home after
allegedly assaulting his wife. When police entered the home
to find him, they found him stuck underneath a bed.
Holdenville police responded to a disturbance in the 900
block of North Burns Street on May 11, the affidavit states.
When they arrived, they were informed that Daniel Paul
Sullivan, 34, had assaulted his wife and barricaded himself
in his house.
Police found the victim, who told them that following
a verbal altercation, Sullivan had grabbed her arms and
throat and threatened to kill her.
Police entered the home with the victim's permission and
search several rooms until an officer looked underneath a
bed and found Sullivan hiding.
Although hiding under the bed may have worked for Sullivan during childhood games of
hide and seek, the 34-year-old may have become a bit too big for the hiding spot.
When police ordered him to come out from under the bed, Sullivan told them, "Give me a
second — I'm stuck."
Police lifted the bed and assisted Sullivan out from under it before placing him in handcuffs.
Officers escorted Sullivan out of the home and informed him that he was being charged
with domestic assault with strangulation, he told them, "Hell no, we're gonna have to talk. I
ain't going for no strangulation. That's the same s--- I got arrested for last time."
Well, obviously he didn't learn his lesson the first time.
Sullivan admitted to grabbing his wife by the arm, but said his hand may have become
tangled in her hair, causing him to grab her throat, but he didn't strangle her.
Sullivan is being charged with domestic assault and battery by strangulation. He was released on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 10, 2014.

June’s Officer of the Month Award goes to…
Athena • Pushmataha County
Athena
Officer of the Month
Athena is a K-9 Officer with the Pushmataha
County Sheriff’s Office. She was nominated for
her loyalty and quick action when a deputy was
being assaulted by a suspect. She is one of three
K-9 officers the county has on the street.
On April 8, Antlers dispatch radioed that an officer needed help on NE A Street in Antlers. The
suspect, Barney Sutterfield, was being placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant when he
ran from police. After a Pushmahata deputy later
located Satterfield, Satterfield again resisted arrest and tried to escape. Several times Satterfield
was warned to stop resisting or the deputy would
release his K-9, Athena, and he would be bitten. Satterfield did not heed the warning and
began kicking the officer. On her own, Athena bit Sattefield on the leg. Athena’s actions
forced Satterfield to stop assaulting the deputy and taken into custody.
Because of Athena’s quick action, she has been named OK Jailbird’s Officer of the
Month for June, 2014.

An Ada man was arrested after he allegedly ran over his girlfriend’s foot with his
bicycle.
Seems like their romance may have gotten
off on the wrong foot.
According to the affidavit, Ada police were
dispatched to the 100 block of S. Mississippi
Avenue due to a domestic disturbance on
May 11. When an officer arrived, he spoke to
the victim who told him that about 15 minutes earlier, she had heard a noise outside
her apartment. When she went to investigate, she found her boyfriend, Mark Alan Silmon, 43, sitting on his
bicycle next to her car.
When she asked him what he was doing, the victim said Silmon
had some less-than-kind words for her, including calling her a whore
and liberal use of the mother of all bad words.
The victim said that after Silmon verbally assaulted her, he ran
over her foot with his bike while still calling her names. She said he
then jumped off his bike and kicked her car. When she asked him
again what he was doing, Silmon allegedly positioned himself between her and the car.
The victim said she pulled out her cellphone to call 911, but Silmon
knocked the phone out of her hand, breaking it into three pieces.
Silmon wasn’t done — he then allegedly raised his bike over his
head and started slamming it into the victim’s car. The victim was
able to get away, and she said she yelled for her son to call 911.
Silmon was apparently undaunted by the call, as he allegedly told
the victim, “Call 911. I have the money to get out.” He then rode his
bike away from the victim’s residence, but police soon caught up to
the violent biker.
Silmon is being charged with domestic abuse – assault and battery
and disrupt/ prevent/ interrupt emergency telephone call. His bond
was set at $2,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 1,
2014.

Not many people wear fanny packs anymore, but when they do, they just
might be hiding something suspicious.
Apparently, no one told John Frederick Hutchinson that fanny packs were so
90s, because the 56-year-old Purcell man was caught wearing one with a plethora
of illegal items inside.
Maybe he just likes to keep his drugs within reach.
According to the affidavit, Chandler police were advised on April 11 that
Hutchinson, who was wanted on a Lincoln County felony warrant, was walking
southbound on Dewey wearing a fanny pack. Police located a man that matched
the description of the suspect walking southbound on Iowa north of Eighth Street. They made
contact with the suspect and positively identified him as Hutchinson, and placed him under
arrest for his warrant.
Before placing Hutchinson in the patrol vehicle, the officer conducted a search and asked him
if he had anything the officer needed to know about. Hutchinson admitted that he had marijuana
in his fanny pack.
That wasn’t the only thing.
Hutchinson told the officer where to locate the drug. The officer bravely went where not many
have gone before — inside another man’s fanny pack to locate the weed.
The officer found a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana, two packages of
rolling papers, a syringe and three lighters.
Someone was ready to party out of his fanny pack.
Hutchinson is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful
possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $3,000.

As the weather starts to warm
up, recreational thoughts naturally
turn to the wonderful lakes
and other waterways in the state of Oklahoma. Along with the
increase of activity in and around the water, comes the potential
for drownings or near drownings, most of which can be prevented
with the use of Personal Floatation Devices. I’ve talked about them
before, but a refresher never hurts, so here goes!
First, let me just say that there are 5 types of PFDs. I’m not
going to get into their descriptions, just which types are required
for what situation. All PFDs must be U.S. Coast Guard approved,
and used in accordance with their label. The label will also state
the type. All vessels must carry one wearable (Type I, II, III,
or V) USCG approved PFD for each person on board or being
towed. In addition to that, vessels 16 feet in length or longer
must have one Type IV USCG approved PFD on board and readily
accessible. Oklahoma Law requires that all children under 13 years
of age wear an approved PFD whenever underway in a vessel less
than 26 feet in length. Each person on a personal watercraft or
sailboard must wear an approved PFD. Anyone being towed on
water skis or similar devices must wear an approved PFD. Ski belts
are not approved PFDs.
Now, besides being USCG approved, all PFDs must be: In good
serviceable condition. They must also be readily accessible. Readily
accessible means you must be able to put the PFD on in a reasonable
amount of time in an emergency. PFDs should not be stowed in
plastic bags, in locked compartments, or have other gear stowed on
top of them. They must also be of the proper size for the intended
wearer. Sizing for PFDs is based on body weight and chest size. A
good way to test this, especially for children, is to put it on, adjust
the straps, and have the wearer raise their arms up, and try to pull
it up off them. If it can come off, it is not the right size for the
wearer.
Those are the requirements, so now lets talk about the
suggestions. If you have children in or around water, make
sure they have a PFD on. Air mattresses, floaties, and other toy
floatation objects don’t count. There have been way too many
stories of toddlers near the water’s edge falling in and drowning,
and these could be prevented by following this suggestion. Also,
keep a watchful eye on those kids...even if they are only out of
your sight for a few seconds, its long enough for them to get in
trouble around the water. Last, wear one on boats even if you don’t
have to. In an emergency, you may not have enough time to put it
on. Thanks for reading, buckle up those PFDs and seat belts, and
be safe!
