Two men were arrested over the course
of the past year for cultivating marijuana
plants at a Tecumseh residence. The men
were locked up because police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the home.
There must be something about that address, because when police returned in July,
they added to the residence’s arrest count.
On July 26, Tecumseh police assisted a
code enforcement officer in inspecting the
residence. When police arrived, they made
contact with 31-year-old Melvin Lee Taylor. According to the affidavit, one of the officers knew Taylor lived there from previous dealings.
The code enforcement officer asked Taylor if he could take pictures
of the backyard in regard to code enforcement complaints.
Taylor told the officer that he could not allow him back there.
Police asked Taylor if he had identification; he said yes, and invited
officers inside the home to retrieve it.
As an officer walked past the back door of the residence, he noticed
the top portion of a marijuana plant. Another officer was able to get a
better view of the plant through a window in the house.
Officers remained on scene of the residence in anticipation of a
search warrant. A juvenile male told one officer that he needed to
clean the backyard. The officer told the male to leave, but later heard
a commotion in the backyard.
When police looked in the backyard, the marijuana plant had been
pulled up.
Officers located the juvenile male near the residence and he was
covered in dirt. The marijuana plant was lying on the ground near
the juvenile. Police placed him in the back of the patrol car and told
his mother that he would have to speak to a judge to determine if he
would be released.
The mom went crazy, refused to speak to officers and told them she
was going to “blow her f------ brains out” since she would be there
without her son. After a verbal argument with police, she was placed
in handcuffs and transported to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Police received a search warrant and returned to the residence.
They found three glass pipes, two plastic pipes, a bong, a bag fill of
marijuana stems and other drug-related items inside the house.
Taylor is being charged with cultivation of a controlled substance
and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at
$4,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1, 2013.

Pets seldom catch much press as
it relates to vehicles, but we have
our pets in our vehicles all the
time. To many, they are a part of the family, and go with us on
trips, to run errands around town, or just out for a ride. Just as we
treat them as part of the family, we have a responsibility to them,
including doing everything we can to keep them safe while in our
vehicles.
This summer, we have been very fortunate in the temperature
department! Only a few days so far have hit triple digits, we’ve had
pretty good rain, and it has been nice. With the temperatures lower
than they have been in the last few years at this time...it could be
easy to forget that as long as the sun is shining, the temperature
inside a parked car can still rise to dangerous levels. Leaving a pet
in the vehicle for as little as 15 minutes can end up having tragic
consequences. Even when the outside temps are in the 70’s, the
temperatures in a closed up vehicle can reach the 90’s or higher. The
best solution is to leave your pet at home. If that is just not possible,
or you choose not to, make sure that your pet has water, and leave
the vehicle running with the air conditioning on. Make sure you
don’t leave your pet for long, because the AC could go out, and then
your pet is stuck in a vehicle that is hot, and is also blowing hot air!
Many people let their dogs ride in the bed of their pickup. We’ve
all seen those dogs with their face into the wind, riding in the back
of the pickup. Please remember that the bed of those pickups are
metal, and even if they are covered by a bed liner or similar product,
the temperature can heat up the bed so hot as to be extremely
painful to your pet’s paws! Again, best solution is to leave the pet at
home, but if take them with
you, use a kennel or crate. This keeps the pet up off the hot bed
of the pickup, and also eliminates the possibility of the pet jumping
out, or even the potential of biting someone who gets too close to
the truck!
Speaking of crates, they aren’t a bad idea for inside the cab either.
Ever see a dog in the lap of a driver? Obviously this is not safe, the
pet can distract the driver, or even interfere with the safe operation
of the vehicle. This puts everyone at risk, so if you are going to
travel with your pet, make sure they don’t contribute to an accident,
and keep them out of the driver’s area!

Do your kids ever fret over the
fact that they “don’t fit in”? We all
feel this way at some point in our
lives. Being alone in a room full of
people is a scary thing. We all want
to belong; to fit in. It’s beyond
instinctive, it gives us the feeling
of safety and security–no matter
what our age. So, when our kids tell us that they don’t fit in, what
they could be saying is, “I’m scared because I don’t feel safe”.
Some kids really have a tough time fitting in for a variety of
reasons. Some kids are socially awkward, and don’t know how
to start a conversation with a peer. If your child struggles with a
physical or learning disability, chances are he/she feels isolated
from the rest of the class anyway. Whatever the reason is, simply
telling them that they really DO fit in, is not as helpful as you’d
expect.
Using God’s Word to Encourage Our Children
Being a Christian parent doesn’t make dealing with these tough
situations easier. But we DO have a resource to back up what we
tell our kids, and that’s God’s Word. When we actively listen to
the pain of our children feeling like they don’t belong or fit in, we
can do more than coach them in social skills (which may be a very
important tool). We can use God’s Word to encourage them even
in these struggles.
Psalm 139:14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and
wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul
knows it very well.
I’ve found the world’s solutions to the many painful aspects of
not fitting in, being teased, or feeling isolated, are superficial at
best and not helpful at all. I mean, sticks and stones may definitely
break my bones–but words really CAN and DO hurt me!
Instead we must remind our children that God, who created
them and therefore knows every nuance of them, has a specific
plan and purpose for their lives. That HE thinks they are wonderful
and worthy of love AND friendship.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has
completed a preliminary report on the 2012 Index Crime
Trends. This report looks at
seven crimes the FBI considers serious. The FBI defines
“serious” as ones that would
occur regardless of geographical location, likely reported to
law enforcement, would affront the moral sensitivities of
our society’s rational being, and would occur with sufficient frequency so that counting it would be worthwhile statistically.
The preliminary report tracks murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault as violent crimes. It also studies burglary, larceny, and
auto theft as non-violent crimes. In 2012, as compared to statistics
from the previous year, reported rapes have shown a significant increase. Reported rapes increased nearly 15% from 2011. Aggravated
assault increased by nearly 4%, whereas the number of murders remained steady at 219, and robberies decreased. In the non-violent
crime category, auto theft increased by 4.8%, larceny increased by
2.9%, and the number of burglaries in the state decreased by more
than 2%.
More than 300 sheriff’s offices and police departments across the
state participated in this state-mandated program. This crime report
is helpful to law enforcement to track trends and, therefore, assign
more manpower to areas showing increases. It also aids departments
applying for grants and other funding sources to combat increases in
specific areas of crime.
The full 2012 Oklahoma Uniform Crime Report is not complete. It
should be ready for publication in the next few months. OSBI UCR

A South Carolina man was caught rubbing
buttered toast all over his neighbor’s SUV
window. Seems like a foolproof plan, how did
he get caught? According to MSN, He just
dropped the toast a few feet away from the
car and made his departure, causing a nearby
woman to notice and call the police. The police charged the now hungry man with “malicious damage to property” and estimated the
cost of damage to be about $1.
What’s the hottest you’ve ever been? Temperature-wise of course, because if it was in
physical terms, we all know we were the hottest at our 5th grade, bowl-cut, chubs stage.
But really, to what extent would you go to cool
off ?
Hopefully not so far you’d get arrested, but
this is exactly what a group of four young men
in Germany did. On a hot day, they decided to
make their own pool in a car. In a BMW no
less. A policeman noticed a very strange convertible driving down the road. Upon closer
viewing, it appeared that the bathing-suit
clad men were splashing around in the waterfi lled car, clearly intoxicated. Though there
was no law against driving around with a pool
in someone’s car, they were probably charged
for driving without a permit. Talk about hot
water.
What do you guys think about sausage? I
suppose it’s better than a hot dog, which in
turn is better than bologna (which is basically
giant hot dog slices?). And no matter what, it
has to be better than Lunchables *shudder*.
No matter your opinion, sausage was a
huge disappointment for this Phoenix man.
He attempted to rob two large businesses,
fi rst an Ace Hardware and then a Safeway. He
put his hand under his shirt to look like a gun,
but the cashier was not fooled and calmly said
“no” to his request for money. Equally unsuccessful was his attempt to rob a Safeway,
which resulted in him being escorted out of
the building. He waited a few minutes before
returning into the store to snag a small breakfast sausage and was therefore charged with
shoplifting. I guess all that failing worked up
an appetite.

Prosecutors have filed charges
against three people after Tulsa
Police found three children
living in filth last week.
Matthew Prior and Angela
Prior each face one count of
child neglect.
Police went to their home in the
1200 block of North 76th East
Avenue on Tuesday, August 6,
2013 on a welfare check.
According to a Tulsa Police report, officers found the couple’s three children in a filthy
home, with cockroaches, rotting food and feces on the floor.
Prosecutors also charged the children’s grandmother with child neglect. According to
investigators, Janet Marie Friend, 57, is the primary caregiver of three children -- ages 5, 3
and 2.
The children were removed in February because of the filth but were returned in May.
All three are in the Tulsa County jail with bonds of more than $150,000 each. The children
are in DHS custody.

Failure to stop at a roadblock ended up in a
trip to jail for three intoxicated men on July 28.
According to the police report, Wewoka police
were conducting a security and safety checkpoint
when a driver failed to stop at the checkpoint until the officers verbally commanded him to do so.
When an officer approached the truck, he noticed that the driver, 37-year-old Don Tranell
Bruner of Oklahoma City, and passengers appeared to be intoxicated.
The officer asked Bruner for his driver’s license and insurance and observed that Bruner
was sluggish in his movements. He asked Bruner
to step out of the vehicle to determine if Bruner
was intoxicated. Bruner denied drinking alcohol, but after a few tests, the officers determined
that Bruner appeared to be under the influence
of marijuana. Bruner admitted to smoking a
blunt earlier that evening.
After failing even more tests, Bruner told police that he had consumed a few beers earlier at
a family reunion.
After Bruner agreed to allow police to search
his vehicle, he failed a Breathalyzer test and was
placed under arrest.
Police found two baggies that contained a
green leafy substance in Bruner’s pocket and a
large amount of a green leafy substance in the
center console of the truck. The substances later
field-tested positive for marijuana.
The officer asked the passengers, 33-yearold Samual Green of Dale City and 35-year-old
Tawan Bruner of Oklahoma City, if they were
also intoxicated and they admitted that they were.
The officer transported Don Bruner to the Seminole County Jail.
Bruner and Green were also booked in jail for unlawful possession
of controlled drug with intent to distribute near school and public
intoxication.
Bruner is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled
drug with intent to distribute near school and driving a motor vehicle
while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. His bond was set at
$29,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 5, 2013.

A man’s thirst led to his arrest after a witness tipped off police that he had come to her door
asking for a drink.
On July 22, a Seminole County deputy was dispatched to an area in Seminole where numerous home and vehicle burglaries had recently occurred. According to the affidavit, a
woman told the deputy that a twenty-something-year-old man wearing a backpack had come
to her door and asked her for water.
The deputy found a man walking out of the driveway of a residence that matched the description of the suspect and asked him what he was doing. The man told him that he was
walking from his aunt’s house to his friend’s house.
When the deputy asked the suspect, Zachary Caleb Goudy, 22, why he had walked out of
the residence, the Norman man started to act nervous and began to fidget.
The deputy told Goudy that he was going to pat him down for his safety. The deputy found a pill bottle with a man’s
name on it in Goudy’s pocket and a woman’s wallet in Goudy’s backpack. The deputy asked Goudy why he had the
wallet and Goudy replied that he had broken “into that house up the road.”
The deputy placed Goudy under arrest and notified the owner of the wallet that he had it. She told him that her
Xbox, games and prescription medications were missing. The deputy found the Xbox and medication in Goudy’s
backpack. He also found 379 baseball/football cards, two knives, gift cards and marijuana and rolling papers.
At the sheriff’s department, Goudy admitted into burglarizing many homes and vehicles, but told the deputy that
there were “too many to count.”
Goudy is being charged with burglary in the first degree, possession of controlled dangerous substances, seven
counts of burglary in the second degree, attempted burglary in the first degree and unlawful possession of paraphernalia. He is being held on a $45,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 12, 2013.

conviction of Dawaylon “Hog”
Rainey. Rainey shot and killed
two people August 4th inside a
Hugo apartment complex.

Shana Suggs, a 25-year-old Haileyville woman, has been
jailed after she allegedly poured gasoline on her daughter’s
head to treat a head lice problem - and ended up setting the
little girl on fire instead.
According to police, Suggs was attempting to treat her
5-year-old daughter’s head lice problem when she brought
the little girl into a bathroom and began pouring gasoline
over her head.
Investigators say a nearby water heater ignited on the gasoline fumes, which set both Suggs and the little girl on fire.
Sugg’s boyfriend reportedly heard screams coming from
the bathroom and used a jacket to smother out the flames -
but not before the little girl was severely burned.
Prosecutors say the child suffered second and third-degree
burns to more than 60 percent of her body. Although the
incident occurred in January, the girl continues to receive burn treatments at a Tulsa
burn center and a Texas Shriner Hospital.
After a long investigation, Suggs was booked into the Pittsburg County Jail and charged
with child abuse by injury. Her case is expected to go to trial in January.

David Magnan
David Magnan, 50, who admitted to
intentionally killing 2 women, a man, and
injuring another, was granted a release in
June on a court’s order due to a technicality.
Magnan pled guilty in Seminole County
District Court to three counts of 1st-degree
murder and one count of shooting with
intent to kill on March 3, 2004. He was
sentenced to death by lethal injection.
But Magnan’s conviction was overturned
by the 10th US Circuit Court of Appeals
after it was determined the triple homicide
had taken place on an Indian reservation
- offi cial Native American land where the
state technically has no authority or jurisdiction.
Only federal and tribal laws have prosecutorial authority on reservation
territory - providing a legal loophole in this case.
Therefore, Magnan, a member the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux
tribes, was removed from death row at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary
in McAlester, where he’d been for nearly 10 years.
The judgment came with the presumption that federal authorities will
intercede and re-arrest and prosecute Magnan, given the homicidal
nature of the crimes and admitted guilt in the triple murder and
wounding of other members of the Seminole Nation.
If he is ever tried federally though, it’s likely Magnan will not face the
death penalty as it is rarely imposed in federal courts.
The killings occurred in 2004 inside an inherited Seminole residence,
where family and friends had gathered to celebrate a birthday. Magnan
drove to the home with two other men, where he shot and injured Eric
Coley who’d come outside to speak to him.
Court records state Magnan then entered the house, noticed James
Howard, said “goodbye,” and shot him.
Karen Wolf and Lucilla McGirt were also shot. Lucilla died from
complications stemming from her gunshot wound two weeks later.

children as victims, and if someone sexually assaults a child,
he will not target adults.
False. Research and anecdotal evidence indicate that while some sex
offenders choose only one type of victim (e.g., prepubescent girls, postpubescent boys, adult women, etc.), others prey on different types of
victims. Therefore, no assumptions should be made about an offender’s

Dogs are often referred to as man’s best friend, but it’s likely
that not everyone is appreciative of the animal’s super-sniffing
abilities. Mary Ann Hill, of Oklahoma City, just may be one of
those people after a K9 used his powerful schnozzle to sniff out
drugs that were in her pickup truck.
On July 26, a Holdenville police officer was dispatched to the
Davis Correctional facility in Holdenville. According to the affidavit, a K9 officer informed him that her K9 had alerted on a
suspect in the administration hallway behind the barrier inside
the facility.
The K9 officer conducted a pat down search on the suspect,
33-year-old Hill, but did not find anything illegal on her person.
Hill agreed to allow police to search her truck. The K9 worked
his magic and alerted police to a small purse located in the center of the truck.
Inside the purse, police found what the K9 had been sniffing.
The purse contained a glass pipe and a clear plastic bottle with two baggies with a white
crystal-like substance inside. The substance later field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Police placed Hill under arrest for the illegal items and she was transported to jail.
During booking, police found two white pills in the small purse that were identified as
acetaminophen and hydrocodone.
Hill is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substances (meth) and
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $3,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 10, 2013.
