Teddy Ray Bartling, 42, of Hastings, is proof to one woman that
the grass is definitely not greener on the other side.
On March 25, Bartling was taken into custody after a man reported to the Stephens County Sheriffs Department that his family had been threatened by Bartling. The accuser told an officer
that his wife, whom he was separated from, was with Bartling and
she had told him that Bartling was out of jail and “had been back
around.” Bartling then took the phone away from the woman
and allegedly told the man that if he contacted law enforcement,
Bartling would kill him and his children, and everyone else close
to the man. The woman then reportedly began screaming in the
background that Bartling was hurting her and the call was disconnected.
The man then began to receive a series of macabre text messages from the woman. At 9:04 p.m., she wrote, “He has me hostage,” and sent another at
9:05 p.m. that said, “U have him arrested he will kill me and the kids.”
There was not until message until 9:26 p.m. that read, “If I die Ted killed me” and one at
9:49 p.m. that said, “We are at our house. Get here now.”
The man told officers that Bartling told him, “I have nothing to lose” in reference to acting
out the threats made. The man added that Bartling knew where he worked and could come
get him at anytime.
Due to his threats to perform acts of violence, Bartling was jailed and is scheduled to appear
in court on June 7, 2013.

Apparently, Billy Wayne Aragon, 41,
just can’t keep his hands to himself.
The Comanche man, who has previously been convicted for a violent crime
toward a police officer, was arrested on
May 5 on charges of assault and battery
and domestic abuse.
Comanche police say Aragon was arrested after his 16-year-old son told officers at the station that his father “beat
me up.” The young man said his father
punched him several times in the face
during an argument at their home. Police observed that the boy’s face had
swelling and it appeared that he had recently been bleeding from his
mouth and nose area. Police also noted that his back showed redness, possibly due to blunt force.
The victim told police his vision was blurry due to his father striking him in the eye. He was transported to Duncan Regional Hospital
for a medical examination. He was kept in the hospital for 24 hours
due to a severe contusion/ concussion that was discovered during
the evaluation.
Police went to the residence of the victim to arrest Aragon. Before
submitting to hand restraints, Aragon wanted to know more about
the situation. After being warned several times that he was under arrest for a domestic issue and that the use of force by Taser would be
used if he did not comply, Aragon finally made the right decision and
wisely submitted to hand restraints.
When questioned, Aragon admitted to punching his son once in
the mouth. Aragon said that was all that happened during the altercation with his son regarding curfew and that his son never tried to
defend himself during the fight.
Aragon was transported to the Stephens County Jail. Bond was set
at $10,000 and he is scheduled back in court June 14.

Apparently, a mixture of Xanax and 99 Blackberries Liqueur renders one able to withstand the effects of a Taser, as
evidenced by Duncan resident Roxane Sable, 51.
On April 20, Duncan police were dispatched to investigate
a vehicle that appeared to be driven by an intoxicated driver.
When the officer arrived, he noticed the driver, identified as
Sable, staring straight ahead for no apparent reason.
The officer exited his vehicle and made contact with the
driver. Upon meeting with Sable, the officer noticed she had
slurred speech, glassy and watery eyes, and would miss objects when she tried to grab them. Sable told the officer she
had not been drinking, but had taken prescription Xanax. The
foul odor of alcohol informed the officer otherwise.
Sable began breathing in and out rapidly and told the officer
she had arthritis. The officer asked Sable to exit the vehicle and while she complied, she did
so with difficulty and neglected to take the vehicle out of drive. The officer reportedly had
to yell at Sable to place the vehicle in park.
Sable failed the field sobriety tests and was told she was under arrest. Apparently not
happy with the news, she resisted arrest by placing her arms in front of her. After being
physically forced into handcuffs, Sable kicked and bit the officer as she was placed in the
patrol car. Once inside, Sable placed her feet back outside the car and refused to get back
in.
Police observed two open containers of 99 Blackberries Liqueur in Sable’s vehicle and
another unopened bottle in her hoodie. After agreeing to take the state’s breath test, Sable
apparently changed her mind once she was in the jail and refused to cooperate. She had
to be placed in a restraint chair, but continued to fight back. The jailer was called to assist
the officers, but Sable managed to kick an officer, bite his arm, grab items on his duty belt
and squeeze his groin. The officer withdrew his Taser and administered a drive stun to her
stomach. The Taser briefly stopped Sable, but she apparently wasn’t going down without
a fight. With the help of a second jailer, Sable was finally subdued in the restraint chair.

Remember catching
fireflies in jars? Taking a
nature walk? Watching a

Hearing the bubbling of a
stream you could not see?
God’s creation speaks of His
majesty and our hearts learn
to sing of His praise.
In an age when a click of a
finger can open up hours of
media entertainment for our children, it can be tempting to tune
out. Pulling away from the television and taking your children
on a walk may put you behind on housework, but it can prepare
them to praise the Most High!
Take the time to share the joy of nature with your children, and
tell them of His wonders.
Psalm 9:1, 2 NLT
“I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the
marvelous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because
of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.”

MR. STARK FIGHTS WITH POLICE. GUESS WHO WON?
It was quite the fiasco to take a man into custody after he led
police on a chase.
Police said 24-year-old Justin Stark allegedly hit a car with a
woman and her small child inside and left the scene earlier this
week. When police arrived, Stark was nowhere to be found.
Authorities “followed the fluid trial and noticed a white pickup
that was traveling completely in the opposite lane of travel” and
veering back and forth with “smoke coming from the hood.”
Stark finally pulled over, his car half on the curb, half off.
“He became very belligerent and very violent,” Mullins said.
“The police attempted to subdue him even going as far as tasing him. It unfortunately did
not work.”
Records state Stark was on the phone and told officers “he would hang up when he was
finished” and “was not getting out of the vehicle.” That’s when an officer grabbed Stark’s
arm and pulled him from the truck, but Stark held on to the steering wheel and starting
punching the officer in the face. Authorities said they fought back but with little luck.
“They had to tase him multiple times,” Mullins said. “He ended up punching one officer in
the face and he ended up biting another officer and latching on to him and they again had
to tase him to get him to cooperate.” But that didn’t work well either.
Grady County police said Stark was able to “grab the cables and probes” from the taser and
“yank them loose.”
“It became so chaotic that several officers involved trying to subdue him and nothing
worked and they had to keep tasing,” Mullins said.
Finally, after one crazy battle, an officer placed the taser on Stark’s shoulder-blade and
gave it one full cycle. It worked and they took the beaten, tased and bruised Stark into
custody.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A broken brake light was the key to
finding methamphetamine in an unusual
police April 26, police say.
Just before 1 a.m. that day, officer David Harper-Head was on patrol on the
1200 block of South Fourth Street when
he reported seeing a white Chevrolet with
one brake light working. He pulled the
truck over and initiated a traffic stop, confronting Montyica Stephens, 43, and her
passenger.
Stephens immediately became nervous
and couldn’t sit still during the conversation, and her pupils were dilated, Harper-Head said. Also, she was rude and refused to answer the officer’s
questions. Knowing the passenger, who was not arrested or charged,
had a history of methamphetamine charges, and after seeing the pair
at a drug house recently, Harper-Head decided to ask some additional questions.
A K-9 called to the scene alerted Harper-Head to drugs in the
truck. Under questioning, Stephens initially said the only drug she
took that day was Adderall. She was being rude to Harper-Head because she was “embarrassed” about being pulled over, she said. Stephens passed a sobriety test.
A search of the truck turned up a pill bottle with “amphetamine
salts,” which had Stephens’ name on it and tan pills inside. There
were also used straws with methamphetamine residue in her purse.
Stephens admitted ownership of the purse but denied having the
meth-covered straws.
Stephens was taken to the county jail, where she told detention officers she had a pipe and methamphetamine inside her vagina.
Stephens posted a $5,000 bond April 26. She faces felony and misdemeanor controlled substance charges and is due back in court at
1:30 p.m. June 5.
Embarrassed?
Just wait.

A Chickasha woman’s decision to
jump the gun got her a trip to jail for
grand theft auto April 24.
At around 9:50 a.m. that day, Grady
County sheriff’s deputy Corey Loftice
spoke to a man who said the vehicle
– an Audi A6 – was stolen in Rush
Springs, but that he lived in Marlow.
When Loftice arrived in Marlow, the
man said Ashley Graffam, 25, called
him the day before and said she wanted
the Audi. Using the name Ashley Hoffman, she said her father owned Hoffman Trucking in Chickasha. Graffam
took a test drive of the Audi and said
she would take the car to her father, then come back the next day
with a check.
However, Graffam never brought the car back or paid for it. She
did call to say her father was busy at work and couldn’t give her the
check until the next morning.
The next day, the man made multiple unsuccessful attempts to call
and text Graffam, deciding to call police when he couldn’t reach her.
Loftice then went to Hoffman Trucking, where he learned Graffam
had a pattern of trying to steal cars in this way. Also, the employees
there said she wasn’t related to the owner.
A talk with Graffam’s father also revealed Graffam had a previous
arrest for stealing a car from a dealership, and she tried to use the
same story in that case.
In an interview, Graffam initially said she had a loan with Chickasha Bank and Trust, but a check showed the loan officer she cited had
retired two years ago. At that point she broke down in tears, saying,
“I’m sorry. I just wanted a car.”
Graffam has court set for 9 a.m. July 16. She remains in custody.
Same story,
same jail.

An out-of-stater is going to spend some
extra time in Oklahoma after an arrest in
Amber on April 28.
Around 10:35 p.m. that day, Chickasha
officer Jonathan Burton received a call to
go to the intersection of Fourth Street and
Texas Avenue after hearing about two people who had 18 cartons of stolen cigarettes.
One of the passengers in the getaway car
matched the description of a man suspected
of robbing the Williams Convenience Store,
Burton said.
In the Williams case, a vehicle backed
into the store to steal three or four cases
of cigarettes from behind the counter. Unfortunately for the would-be smokers, they
were caught by video surveillance.
When Burton caught up to the getaway
car, the passenger, Albino Abel Nunez, 24,
from Amarillo, Texas, said he got the cigarettes from James Day, 30, from Georgia,
to sell. Nunez said he didn’t know where
James got the cigarettes from. Burton then
went to the America’s Best Value Inn to confront Howard about the allegations, and,
sure enough, Howard had 116 packs of different kinds of cigarettes.
In an interview, Day blamed Nunez for the burglary and said his
partner told him “not to say anything” as he crashed into the store for
the cigarettes.
Day was arrested on the spot for the burglary complaint, with Nunez
joining him in lockup soon after.
Day and Nunez face charges of knowingly concealing stolen property and second-degree burglary. They are in custody on $20,000 bonds
each and will appear in court at 1:30 p.m. June 5 to set preliminary
hearing dates.

Davis & DeRosa Execution Dates Set
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals set June
18 as the execution date for LeFlore County death row
inmate James Lewis DeRosa, 36, and June 25 as the
execution date for Kay County death row inmate Brian
Darrell Davis, 38.
In October 2001, DeRosa was found guilty and
sentenced to death for the fi rst-degree murders of
Curtis Plummer, 73, and Gloria Plummer, 70, both of
Poteau.
DeRosa was briefl y employed by the Plummers and
told several friends on multiple occasions he thought
the elderly couple would be an easy target to rob.
DeRosa’s friend Eric Castleberry, 21, agreed to help
with the robbery and Castleberry’s friend, Scotty White,
18, agreed to drive.
After being welcomed into the Plummers’ home,
DeRosa and Castleberry brandished knives. While the
couple begged and struggled for their lives, DeRosa
proceeded to stab the Plummers multiple times and
slit their throats. DeRosa and Castleberry left the scene
with $73 and the couple’s pickup truck. The truck was
ditched in a nearby lake.
Castleberry testifi ed at DeRosa’s trial in exchange for a
sentence of life without the possibility of parole. White
was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and
received two 25-year sentences with the last seven years on probation.
Davis was found guilty by a jury in January 2003 for the November 2001 fi rstdegree murder and rape of his girlfriend’s mother, Jody Sanford, 52, of Ponca
City. He was sentenced to death for the murder and 100 years for rape.
In November 2001, Davis was living with his girlfriend, Stacey Sanford. They
had ended the relationship, but he refused to move out.
The night of the murder, Stacey stayed at a hotel after Davis had been
drinking. Davis called Stacey’s parents looking for her and Jody Sanford
became concerned. Unable to locate her daughter, Jody Sanford went to
Stacey’s apartment.
While at the apartment, there was an altercation between Davis and Jody
Sanford. The next morning, Stacey found her mother’s body. She had been
beaten and stabbed six times. DNA evidence also showed Jody Sanford had
been raped.

By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Oklahoma has a lot of rural
areas, and is crisscrossed with
county roads. In those rural areas,
these county roads are traveled extensively, and as a result, around
50% of all accidents occur on them. The majority of those are due to
unsafe speeds. Most of these roads don’t have a posted speed limit,
so how is a driver to even know what the legal speed is? I’m going
to try and give some insight into that.
First, by state law, the speed limit on all county roads in the
state that aren’t otherwise posted is 55 miles per hour. Wait, you
might say...I heard the speed limit in my county on county roads
is 35, or 45. You are probably correct. The reason some counties
have a speed limit that is different on their county roads is because
the Board of County Commissioners for that county can set by
resolution a maximum speed limit for their roads. So how do you
know what the speed limit is for each county?
Posted on the county line marker, wherever a state highway
enters a county, and at all off-ramps where Interstates or Turnpikes
enter a county, there is a sign advising the driver of the speed limit
for non-posted county roads which will read as follows: ENTERING
________ COUNTY, COUNTY ROAD SPEED LIMIT _____MPH
UNLESS POSTED OTHERWISE.
Keep your eyes out next time you cross a county line, and see if
you see a sign like this, because they are out there. Now, if you don’t
see the signs, that means that in that particular county, the County
Commissioners did not change the speed limit on those county
roads, and the speed limit is 55 MPH as set by state law. For those
of you that would like to see this information, you can find it in the
Oklahoma State Statutes, Title 47-11-801F.
Now that we know the speed limit on these roads, lets talk about
the unsafe speeds that usually result in accidents. Most are due to
driving too fast on the type or roadway, specifically gravel, or on a
curve or turn. Just because the speed limit is 55, doesn’t mean that
you have to go that fast, and you should adjust your speed to the
conditions...if its gravel, and you are sliding around, you are going
too fast. Gravel is tricky, it doesn’t have the same grip as pavement,
and the depth and type of gravel all play a role in the traction you
have, which affects your stopping ability. If you are unfamiliar with
the road, be aware that it could be a T intersection, or a 90 degree
turn on the back side of a hill... adjust your speed to your abilities,
the conditions present, and potential conditions you may not know
about!
I hope this clears some things up on those county roads! Thanks
for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

What a pretty yard...
Debra Farinella, a 57-year-old Florida woman, has been jailed after she
allegedly stole more than 100 grave site decorations to decorate her home
and yard.
According to St. Cloud police, Farinella stole as many as 140 items from
Mt. Peace Cemetery in St. Cloud, including statues, lights, ceramic pedestals, sculptures, flowers and personal affects.
Even more shocking, Farinella reportedly stole items from the grave sites
of several children and used the items to decorate the inside of her home.
An investigation was launched last week when a city employee noticed
Farinella’s activities and was able to get a partial license plate number from her car. Six
people had also recently filed complaints with police stating that items were missing from
their loved one’s grave sites.
Detectives were able to identify Farinella as the suspect and obtained a search warrant for
her home. When officers arrived at her home, they found her yard littered with many of the
items that had been reported missing.
Several victims who lost grave site decorations from their children or grandchildren recovered the items when investigators found them in Farinella’s home.
A short time after officers served their search warrant, Farinella claimed to be having heart
trouble. She was taken to a local hospital. After she was released from the hospital, she was
booked into jail and charged with felony theft charges, according to police.
