A Marlow man got wasted on Xanax and
stole a truck after a night of partying on
September 5.
Michael Dallas Guy, 20, said he wasn’t
sure what led him to the truck, but he continued to drive it around even after he sobered up.
According to the affidavit, a Duncan police officer was dispatched to the 700 block
of N. 14th around 9:30 a.m. to investigate a
stolen truck. The truck’s owner told the officer that his truck was parked in front of his
friend’s house all night. When he returned to get it, it was gone.
The friend said the truck was in front of his house when he looked
outside at 8:30 a.m., but when he looked about an hour later, it was
gone. He just assumed his buddy came back and picked up his vehicle without telling him.
At approximately 1:25 p.m., the victim told police his friend spotted his vehicle in a driveway in the 1100 block of West Beech. When
officers went to check it out, they were greeted by Guy who told
them, “I know this looks bad, but…”
He explained that he was at a party the night before, got wasted on
Xanax and woke up in the stolen truck. He said he wasn’t sure how
he wound up in the truck, but he apparently thought it was okay to
drive someone else’s vehicle.
Guy noticed the keys were in the ignition, so he drove to his mom’s
house on Heffington Road. He then drove into town looking for a
friend. He told police he found the victim’s wallet in the truck, and
knew the man’s name and address, but he still didn’t return the
truck.
When he finally found his friend, she asked him to take her to TriCounty Wrecker. He did so and returned to the residence on West
Beech, where the victim’s friend saw him driving the truck.
Guy didn’t appear to think driving around in a truck that wasn’t
his was wrong – he never tried to contact the owner or police.
Guy is being charged with possession of stolen vehicle. His bond
was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on October
1, 2015.
I know this looks bad, but…

Noble man Keith Richard Berg, 44, had some less-thankind words for a police officer after he was disturbed while
trying to sleep off a night of boozing. Berg dropped some
f-bombs and told the officer he was going to “get” him.
Too bad the officer got him first!
A Duncan officer was dispatched to 14th and Walnut
shortly after 5 a.m. on August 30 due to a suspicious male
parked in a business parking lot. That’s where he found
Berg sleeping across the front seat of a vehicle with his legs
sticking out of the open driver’s side door.
As he approached the vehicle, the officer was greeted by
an overwhelming stench of alcohol. He woke up Berg and
asked for his information.
According to the affidavit, Berg instead replied, “F--- you,
mother f-----!”
The officer again asked for an ID. Berg refused, so the officer walked to the passenger side
of the vehicle and opened the door. Berg tried to shut the door and yelled, “Shut the f------
door, mother f-----. Leave me the f--- alone.” He then jumped out of the car in an aggressive
stance.
Another officer on scene grabbed the man and placed him in handcuffs.
On Berg’s person, police found a green leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana.
Even though Berg was headed to jail, he wasn’t going without a fight. When they arrived
at the jail, Berg kicked the officer when he opened the door. Another officer had to help with
getting the man inside.
Berg told police that he pulled over to sober up because he knew he was drunk and he
didn’t want to wreck. He told the arresting officer that when he gets out of jail, he’s going to
find the officer’s house and “get” him. He added, “That is a threat!”
Berg is being charged with actual physical control of vehicle under the influence, possession of controlled dangerous substance, and threaten to perform act of violence. He was
released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 14, 2015.

What you’re saying
about this on...
Okjailbirds: THIS COMMENT WAS POSTED BY AN OFFICER WHO WISHES
TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS: In reference to the DHS post - I’m in law enforcement and
you can get a LOT of feedback from cops about DHS. Most of us see how badly they handle
cases and how many innocent families they destroy and how many abusive parents they
let keep kids.
The problem is, many of us don’t want to speak up in a public forum like Facebook because it doesn’t look good for a government employee (the cop) to bad mouth another. It
creates a very unprofessional image.
Please keep me anonymous, but you might pass along to their director that there is a
large disdain for DHS among law enforcement. That should be taken very seriously because we are the ones who see first hand the nature of the cases they handle. Most of these
cases are referred to them by U.S. or to us by them.
I’ve only dealt with one DHS worker that I thought truly cared and was competent
enough to do what was in the best interest of the kids and family.
Amber S: It’s nice to finally hear an officer speak about what really happens.
Tiffany M: Thank you for your service officer, and thank you for speaking up!!! I
only wish more officers will come forth!!!!
Marilyn R: Thank you for your service officer! Oklahoma DHS is a joke and an
embarrassment to our state.
Larrad R: Ill belive it when I see it. The is the most famous line besides we are
taking your children, from DHS
Beth N: In as many as we have dealt with including four to six Directors in the
almost two years of dealing we know of just one that I commend doing her job above and
beyond and I am proud to know her.
Brooke B: Thank You so much. In tears
Chasity T: Thank you
Michelle K: Good to see an officer speak up. Its sad that officer needs to remain
unanimous but I don’t blame him/ her because odd backlash. I’ve seen cases where children were taken and shouldn’t have been and I’ve seem cases where they should never be
with the p...See More
DHS in Oklahoma has been one of the largest complaints we receive at OK Jailbirds. We are asking our readers to tell us what their experiences with DHS have
been. Good or bad, lets hear it and we will hopefully be speaking with the director
soon to address some of these issues.
Tell us about your experiences with DHS
Jennifer L: I’ve been there, “in the system” and i only remember one that cared
and still stay in contact with and I’m almost 40. I was moved at least 5 or 6 times before i
got to go live my dad. It really sucks as a kid. And out of those foster family’s was only one
that actually cared the rat it was alp about the money.
Jamie J: I have to agree!!! Dealing with Stillwater DHS is a JOKE!!!!
Kendra W: I’m a former foster child they took me out the Hm never did anything about the case only to have to find out 5yrs later that if they did their job my sisters
wouldn’t of have to been put thru being raped & my sister pressured into a baby adoption
scheme. I was in the system & seen several workers a lot of them don’t care bc of burn
out(I’m not defending them)they have too many cases little pay not to mention it is a very
stressful job. There needs to be a check & balance here sum way to help prevent them with
burn out & also a way to hold them accountable
Abrielle R: Thank you, officers, for caring and for fighting for us.
Nicole J: My case was very sensitive.. I greatly respect the officer that did everything he could to help my children and me that horrible night. I will always remember him.
So, I know what your talking about when you say you see first hand and your first on call. its
truly sad that you guys aren’t allowed to do more. This officer spoke on my behalf in court
by supena on three different accounts, but dhs still managed to twist it. I think what you
are doing is something wonderful. You’re giving us all hope that something will be done.
Thank u and God bless you.
Catherine G: DHS has very good works.
Dana L: This police officer did not say anything about the list I wonder why unless
they don’t know about it yet but most do.
Joseph H: My experience is that when myself and other fathers file a complaint
against the mother, Dhs is quick to dismiss the case and close it way to soon. They didn’t do
near enough investigating. No surprise visits or anything. They showed up once and closed
the case.. OKLAHOMA DHS IS A JOKE.
Billy S: I was accused of child abuse because I spanked my son for stealing at
school. Two weeks after the spanking they came to my house and looked at my son’s bare
bottom. There were no bruises on his butt but there were some on his legs. They asked him
where they came from and he told them that they were from playing. The next day DHS
removed my kids and it took me two years to get them back. The only thing they were after
was my money. I was ordered to go through numerous domestic violence classes as well as
parenting and anger management classes. There were 4 times that the judge ordered them
to return my children but DHS kept appealing the ruling and would not return them. I have
never hated anyone or anything until I had to deal with this agency.
Kathie B: Kelsey Briggs…Will soon be 10 years that she was murdered under the
watchful eye of DHS.
Amber D: Dhs was very quick to ensue child support payments from my husband
when his son lived with his mom. When my husband and i obtained custody they havent
done anything to get child support from the mother and its almost been a year!
Jenny M: It’s very sad that so many of you cannot see all the positive things that
the OKDHS does for many Oklahomans each and every day. We are so much more than
just child welfare and food stamps. We don’t just yank kids out of homes for no reason and
did you know that a judge has to sign each and every pickup order issued for a child. It isn’t
the decision of one individual worker. Yes they are overworked but many are supporting
families of their own and guess what? Many are also foster parents which are desperately
needed in Oklahoma. Do you realize that we also provide services so that parents can work,
provide services to improve and protect the lives of those with mental and physical disabilities? We also pay for services to keep our elderly out if nursing homes where they
are also neglected and abused as well. YOU are the eyes and ears of your community! We
depend on the public to stand up and say something if you see a child or vulnerable adult
being neglected or abused. EVERYONE in Oklahoma is a mandated reporter, not just DHS
workers. Perhaps instead of ranting and raging about what DHS is doing wrong, you might
consider your own parenting practices and try to improve them. Or, offer a hand to someone who appears to be struggling. Oklahomans are some of the strongest, kindest people
in the nation. We take care of each other here. It has been my pleasure and my mission to
serve OKDHS for nearly 22 years. Yes, there have been rough times but we hang on and do
the best we can with what the legislature allows us. Next time you want to complain about
what we do wrong, stop and think about what we actually do right. Chances are, your family had been touched in some positive way at some point in time or you will need us in the
future. Don’t be so quick to judge unless you’ve walked in our shoes.

When 23-year-old Merci Rene
Keene’s husband tried to leave
with their daughter while she
was at work, she got him where
it hurts- literally. The Chickasha
woman tried to bite her man’s penis off.
Thanks to the man’s lucky stars,
she was unsuccessful and arrested
for domestic abuse.
According to the affidavit, a
Chickasha officer was dispatched
to the 900 block of South 15th
Street at 12:33 p.m. on September
4 to check out reports of a disturbance. When he arrived, he heard
a man and woman yelling at each
other.
The man stepped outside the house and told the officer he and his
wife, Keene, were fighting. Keene told the officer they were fighting
because her husband attempted to leave with their daughter. She
said she was at work when her mom called her and said her husband
was trying to leave with their 11-month-old daughter.
Keene left work to confront her husband.
There was no verbal argument here – Keene said she tackled her
husband while she was holding their daughter and took him to the
ground. Once he was down, Keene said she bit the victim on the
arm, hit him, and tried to bite his penis off.
The victim had a bite mark on his left thigh, about two inches
away from his private parts.
Keene was arrested and transported to jail.
Keene is being charged with domestic abuse in the presence of a
minor. She was released on a $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 16, 2015.

Fletcher man Phillip Scott Mandrell, 36, told Chickasha police he
stole a truck when he was drunk and
stranded, and took it to buy dope on
September 9.
According to the affidavit, the officer was advised of the stolen truck
shortly after 8:30 a.m. Another officer had stopped the vehicle and
ran the tag around 3:30 that morning – it was reported stolen out of
Comanche.
The truck had been impounded
after a traffic stop that morning. According to the officer involved, he
stopped the stolen truck after the
driver failed to stop at the stop sign
at North Ninth Street and Delaware Avenue.
The driver, identified as Mandrell, was arrested for driving with a
suspended license and the vehicle was taken away by a wrecker.
An officer went to see the truck and confirmed that it was indeed
the vehicle that had been reported stolen.
Mandrell told the officer that he was the only person that had been
in the truck. When the officer told him the vehicle was stolen, he
“showed little to no emotion.”
Mandrell told the officer he drove the vehicle from Fletcher to
Chickasha to buy dope. He said he didn’t remember much about the
night, because he partied too hard.
Around 4 p.m., the officer went to speak with Mandrell a second
time. Mandrell told the officer that he stole the truck from a residence near Fletcher. He said he was drunk and stranded, and he
found the truck in a driveway and noticed the key was in the ignition.
He jumped in the truck and drove around until police stopped him.
Mandrell is being charged with possession of stolen vehicle. His
bond was set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
October 14, 2015.

A Norman man was arrested on the side
of the turnpike in Grady County after he allegedly fought with his woman on the side of
the road and struggled with an officer.
On September 9, a state trooper was on
patrol in Grady County when he advised by
Lawton dispatch that a couple was fighting near mile marker 96 on the H.E. Bailey
Turnpike. When he pulled up to the area, he
was advised the couple had left, but the suspect car had just turned around near mile
marker 90 and almost caused a collision.
The trooper headed that way and could hear someone yelling,
“Help!” He drove up to some vehicles parked on the side of the road
– one of them was a Chickasha patrol car. There were several people
“fighting and wrestling” down in the ditch, according to the affidavit.
The trooper stopped his car and walked toward the fight. He noticed that one of the individuals in the fight was an officer wearing
plain clothes with a badge around his neck.
Four other men were with him trying to subdue a man later identified as 29-year-old Michael Lawrence Salmon. Salmon was placed
in handcuffs and the trooper asked him what he was doing fighting
along the highway.
Salmon told him that he was being arrested without reason. The
trooper explained that dispatch received numerous calls about him
and a woman fighting at two separate locations along the turnpike.
The officer involved in the scuffle told the trooper he saw a couple arguing and shoving each other, so he stopped and told them to
separate. The male, identified as Salmon, kept wanting to leave. The
officer told him he couldn’t go and tried to place him in handcuffs.
They then started struggling, and the officer and Salmon fell into a
ditch and started fighting.
A few other people stopped and tried to help the officer subdue
Salmon.
Salmon refused to speak to police.
Salmon is being charged with assault and battery upon a police
officer. His bond was set at $8,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on October 14, 2015.

Oklahoma Game Warden Michael Zimmerman was on patrol
at Taylor Lake, in southern Grady
County, on the morning of Monday
August 24. Warden Zimmerman
was almost hit, head on, by a wrong
way driver. Warden Zimmerman
was able to catch up to the suspects,
stopping them.
While he was investigating the
driver, the passenger, later identified as Schuyler Knapp, 34, of
Chickasha, got out of the vehicle
and repeatedly refused to comply
with orders to get back in the vehicle. Knapp eventually fled, on foot,
running through a nearby residential area. Warden Zimmerman chased the suspect for approximately
150 yards, before he was able to catch him.
Knapp fought with Warden Zimmerman, resisting arrest. Warden
Zimmerman attempted to subdue Knapp with pepper spray, but he
continued to fight. Eventually, Knapp was able break free and run
another 100 yards, before Warden Zimmerman was able to catch
him again. Knapp continued to fight Warden Zimmerman, and the
pepper spray was not helping.
Luckily, Warden Zimmerman noticed some bystanders approximately 50 yards away, watching the altercation. Warden Zimmerman requested their assistance, and they immediately came to his
aid. Warden Zimmerman was then able to place handcuffs on Knapp
and take him into custody.
Knapp was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a concealed weapon, Resisting arrest, Assault and Battery
on a peace officer, and Attempting to elude a peace officer.
Knapp also had a felony arrest warrant, in Stephens County, for
Assault and Battery with a dangerous weapon.
