‘Dumb and drunk’ man breaks into home, scares teen girl

EDMOND, Okla. – A 14-year-old girl who was home alone received quite the scare when a 25-year-old man broke into her home while she was alone on February 3.

The suspect, Edmond man Roy Austin Whittington, told police that he was “drunk and dumb,” and that the house he broke into was actually his childhood home.

Time to move on, Whittington!

According to reports, Edmond police were dispatched to a home on North Boulevard at approximately 4:30 p.m. to investigate a burglary.

Waiting for them at the home was a scared 14-year-old girl, who had called 911 when she heard a man breaking into her home.

The teen said he heard the screen door open and banging on the door.

She ran to the bathroom and locked the door before calling 911.

The 14-year-old whispered to a dispatcher that someone was breaking into her house.

Whittington allegedly whistled at the girl’s dogs as she told dispatch, “My dogs are barking!”

Whittington messed around the house for more than 10 minutes before eventually leaving the home through the back door.

Officers chased after the man, who fled on foot.

A passerby assisted the police and blocked Whittington’s path.

The man then laid down in the grass and surrendered to the police.

Officers swarmed the man and placed him under arrest.

Whittington didn’t take anything when he broke into the home.

He told officers, “I am drunk and dumb. I wanted to visit the home I grew up in.”

Whittington was arrested on complaints of public intoxication, first-degree burglary, and obstructing an officer. Bond information and court date were unavailable at the time of publication.
