Dear Editor:
I am writing because there was a misprint in
your January issue. You have Justin Timms as
a Jr, which in actuality he is a Sr, he and I have
a 15 year old son and he is actually the Jr. I'm
trying to protect my son and will go to bat for
him. I don't want anything to fall back on my
son later in life because his dad never spoke
up to have it changed. Thank you for looking
into the matter.
Sincerely,
Chiquita L. Mayberry

When officers placed Ringling
man Jared Michael Ficklin, 32, under arrest for a warrant on January
20, the man was able to escape
from a patrol car -- but it only lasted
a couple of days.
According to the police report,
Jefferson County deputies placed
Ficklin under arrest for an active
warrant at approximately 8:54 p.m.
at his residence in the 4800 block
of N. 3040 Road. A deputy placed
the man in handcuffs and put him
in the patrol vehicle then went to
speak to others who were at the
residence.
When he returned to his car, the
back door was open, and Ficklin
was gone.
After an exhaustive 3-hour search
involving multiple law enforcement
agencies, officers were still unable to locate the fugitive and called off the
search at approximately 3 a.m.
On January 22 around 7:51 a.m., dispatch contacted the officer and
told him a caller reported that a man matching Ficklin’s description was at
a residence on N. 3040 Road loading stuff into a silver truck. When police
arrived at the residence, the gate was locked, but they saw a silver truck
and a woman they had met when arresting Ficklin. She invited them into
the residence, but Ficklin was still nowhere to be found.
Some officers posted up near the residence to monitor any vehicles that
were coming and going from the location. Other family members were
contacted, but everyone told police they hadn’t had any contact with the
fugitive.
A short time later, officers saw the silver truck leave the residence. They
spoke to the driver, who confirmed that Ficklin was inside the house.
Officers went back to the home and informed the woman they knew
Ficklin was inside. They searched the house and found the man hiding in
the attic above a crawl space in the laundry room. Some knives, tools and
brass knuckles were located on the man’s person.
Police placed him under arrest and transported him to jail.
Ficklin is being charged with attempted escape from arrest or detention and malicious injury to property under $1,000. His bond was set at
$100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on February 28, 2017.

A Harmon County sheriff’s deputy shot and
wounded an Altus man when the man reportedly
drove toward the deputy after a traffic stop.
The traffic stop, based on possession of a stolen
vehicle, happened about one mile north of Gould on
county road 1610 in Harmon County just after noon
on January 16.
The deputy spotted the stolen vehicle and made
a traffic stop. Valeriano Galvan, 31, complied with
the deputy and exited the vehicle. As the deputy
called for backup, the suspect got back inside the
stolen pickup truck and attempted to run over the
deputy. The deputy fired one shot into the vehicle. The suspect was not hit
by the bullet, but he was injured by debris from the gunshot.
Galvan was taken to the Harmon County jail.
At the request of the Harmon County Sheriff’s Office, OSBI special
agents are investigating the officer-involved shooting. Agents will deliver a
written report to the district attorney for his review. The district attorney will
determine how to proceed.
OSBI INVESTIGATES OFFICERINVOLVED SHOOTING TIPS FROM A TROOPER
Today we are covering what you
should do when you are driving near
large semi trucks/trailers. You have
possibly heard of “No-Zone” which is
the areas that are blind spots for the
semi drivers. These areas we want to
avoid to potentially avoid a collision
with the semi. Do not “hang out” and
drive right beside a semi. Allow them
to maintain the proper space they
need to make turns, especially right
turns.
Share the Road with Large Trucks-Don’t Hang Out in the “No-Zone”!
Q: What is the “No-Zone”?
A: The “No-Zone” refers to the blind spot areas around large commercial vehicles, or the areas where cars are so close to the truck or bus that the driver’s
ability to stop or maneuver safely is restricted.
Q: Why do I need to know about the “no-zone”?
- Knowing about the “no-zone” areas around large vehicles will help you
to steer clear of unsafe situations involving large vehicles and help reduce
crashes.
- There are more than 250,000 crashes involving cars and trucks every year.
Many could be avoided by keeping these important points in mind:
- Large vehicles have much more sizable blind spots than cars do.
- Large vehicles also have deep blind spots directly behind them. If you are
driving behind a truck or bus and you can’t see one of its side view mirrors,
the driver can’t see you.
- At times, truck and bus drivers need to swing wide to the left to make a
right turn. Don’t cut in between the vehicle and the curb or the shoulder to
the right.
- Large vehicles cannot stop as quickly as cars. When passing, look for the
whole front of the vehicle in your rear view mirror before pulling in front of the
truck or bus.
- After passing don’t slow down.

Hobart man Horacio Salinas Hernandez, 54, allegedly showed up at his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on January 18, where
he wasn’t supposed to be, and threatened
her current boyfriend.
According to the affidavit, a Hobart officer was dispatched to the apartment in the
600 block of West 11th Street at approximately 6:14 p.m. due to Hernandez being
on the property and disturbing the peace.
The officer knew from prior incidents that
Hernandez was banned from the property.
Officers had been dispatched to the area
several times due to Hernandez being on
the premises, but he was gone each time
an officer arrived.
The officer met with the reporting party,
who happened to be Hernandez’s ex-girlfriend. Her current boyfriend and one of her friends were with her inside of
the apartment when Hernandez showed up. The woman said Hernandez
made an appearance at her home at approximately 6 p.m. He started beating on the door, asking her to let him in. When she refused, he started yelling
that he knew her boyfriend was also inside the apartment. He told the man
that he better not be seeing the woman, or he would be sorry.
Hernandez also told the boyfriend that he knew which vehicle was his, and
he threatened to slash the tires.
The woman said Hernandez isn’t supposed to be on the property, but he
waits until the apartment manager leaves around 5 p.m. Both the woman
and her current flame told the officer they wanted to press charges.
Hernandez is being charged with disturbing the peace and trespassing
after being forbidden. His bond was set at $250, and he is scheduled to appear in court on February 14, 2017.
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Adalberto Ramiro-diaz thought he was a smart criminal. Lots of dumb criminals think this, of course, but Ramiro-diaz could back it up: He had allegedly
been dealing drugs for a long time. This is quite an accomplishment because
the drug business is filled with risks: customers who want to cheat you, rivals
who want to rob you, cops who want to arrest you. How did he stay free for so
long? In July, according to TCPalm.com, Ramiro-diaz allegedly sold marijuana
and mushrooms to a customer. He let that customer in on the secret of his
success: “Adalberto bragged to me he had been doing this a long time and is
very smart about his narcotics transactions and that is why he has never been
busted. He said no one comes to his house without calling first and if someone
just shows up he will answer the door pointing a 9mm handgun at their head.”
Sounds smart! Unfortunately, this customer happened to be an undercover
investigator. Whoops! The alleged drug dealer was arrested in September.
In the summer of 2013, Anthony J. “Jimi” Lescowitch Jr. allegedly assaulted
a man, stole his ATM card, and ran away. He kept on running, apparently,
and the cops were having trouble finding him. So, in January 2014, the Freeland, Pennsylvania, police posted Lescowitch’s mug shot on Facebook, asking people to contact them with information on the suspect’s whereabouts.
To the cops’ surprise, one of the people who complied with their request was
Lescowitch himself, who immediately posted the photo on his own Facebook
wall along with an obscene comment. “lol I f---in love it A-----E,” he wrote according to Philly.com.
Reasoning that stupidity usually strikes twice, the cops sent Lescowitch a
Facebook message under the guise of an attractive woman, asking the fugitive
if he’d be willing to meet her for a drink. Lescowitch said no. (Very smart!) Well,
would Lescowitch at least be willing to come have a cigarette? Lescowitch
said yes. (Very stupid!) When Lescowitch showed up at the designated smoking spot, he was arrested—further proof that smoking is bad for you, I guess.
Later, the Freeland police posted a triumphant update on Facebook: “CAPTURED!!!!!! SHARES OUR STATUS ON FACEBOOK ABOUT HIMSELF, CAPTURED 45 MINUTES LATER.” The first comment on this new status: “One less
member at tomorrow’s Freeland MENSA meeting.” Indeed.
Wayne Wade should’ve stayed home. On July 30, the Florida man allegedly burglarized an apartment in the town of Hollywood only to encounter the
apartment’s tenant on his way out the door. “Uh-oh, now she knows what I
look like. I need to get out of here!” Wade presumably thought. So he fled,
only to realize that he had accidentally left his cellphone in the home he just
allegedly robbed. “Uh-oh, now the cops have my fingerprints and lots of other
incriminating data. I need to get that phone back!”
So he called his phone, maybe hoping that the person who answered would
see the humor in the situation and return it to him. Instead, the phone was
answered by a detective who was in the house investigating the burglary that
had just been committed there. According to the Sun-Sentinel, “Wade told the
cop his name and said he needed his phone back.” Instead, he was arrested,
and the fingerprints from his phone were used to tie Wade to five other unsolved burglaries. In court later that week, Wade told a skeptical judge that his
phone had been stolen. Uh-oh, no one believes my terrible excuse!

20-year-old Myam Grace Secrest was locked up
after she was caught with a runaway teen on January 18.
The Walters woman lied to officers about the
teen’s identity and allegedly helped him runaway
from home.
According to the affidavit, a Walters officer was
dispatched to a residence on County Road 2600
shortly after midnight because a man reported that
someone was ringing his doorbell. When officers arrived, they found a car with its passenger side tire
stuck in the mud. Two individuals were standing outside the car.
The officer made contact with the couple. The woman was identified as
Secrest. A young man with her identified himself as a 17-year-old named
Caleb from Marlow.
Secrest told police they had been out driving when her car became stuck.
Officers tried pulling the vehicle out of the mud, but the rope wasn’t strong
enough. The officer told the couple they needed to call someone to come
get them.
Secrest’s mom didn’t answer the phone. The teen said he couldn’t remember his parents’ phone numbers. He told the officer he was staying in
Walters with Secrest.
The officer then asked the teen if he had school the next day. He said yes.
The officer was about to ask him how he planned to get back home when
he took off sprinting north on 2600 toward some houses.
The officer ordered Secrest to get in the patrol car.
While looking for the man, Secrest told the officer she didn’t know why
he would run. The officer asked Secrest how long she had been dating the
teen. Secrest said a couple of months, but they weren’t really dating. She
told the officer she had many boyfriends.
The officer again asked Secrest what the boy’s name was. She told him
it was Caleb.
When officers caught up to the teen, he admitted that he had lied about
his name, and he was a runaway from Stephens County. He said Secrest
knew his real name, and she had picked him up and brought him to Walters
after they met on Facebook.
Secrest was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Secrest is being charged with obstructing an officer and contributing to
delinquency of a minor. Her bond was set at $1,500, and she is scheduled
to appear in court on August 9, 2017.

Frederick man Elias Ramirez-Martinez, 26,
was arrested for allegedly ramming his girlfriend’s father’s truck into a stop sign while
under the influence of alcohol on January 17.
He said he didn’t remember.
According to the police report, a Frederick
officer was dispatched to the corner of Third
and Grand at approximately 12:47 p.m. for
what had been reported as a hit-and-run.
The officer arrived to find that it appeared as
though someone had hit the stop sign, knocking it to the ground and completely destroying
it.
A witness told the officer the description of
the truck that hit it.
The officer located the vehicle abandoned in the 100 block of West
Grand. A woman who was nearby advised him that Ramirez-Martinez had
been behind the wheel. The officer located the registered owner of the
truck, who said Ramirez-Martinez was his daughter’s boyfriend, and the
man wasn’t supposed to be driving the vehicle.
At approximately 2:19 p.m., the officer spotted the suspect walking out
of a liquor store in the 500 block of East Gladstone. The man smelled like
alcohol and he was unsteady on his feet. A sobriety tests revealed that
Ramirez-Martinez was most definitely intoxicated. The officer placed him
under arrest and transported to jail.
Ramirez-Martinez told the officer he was just a guy who was down on his
luck and was struggling with an alcohol addiction. He also said he didn’t
remember hitting the stop sign -- he was just out trying to get drunk.
Ramirez-Martinez is being charged with leaving scene of accident involving property damage and public intoxication. His bond was set at $1,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 7, 2017.
MORE BAD LUCK
During the recent OSBI Awards Ceremony, the Bureau recognized the stellar work
performed on a cold case homicide that
solved the mystery. Special Agent Amie
Gates and Cold Case Special Investigator
Clif Gann worked together to determine
who killed an elderly woman more than 30
years ago.
In March 1985, Roxie Webb was stabbed
and strangled to death inside her Guymon
home. The police department requested
OSBI investigative assistance. For years,
special agents followed leads, but the case grew cold; however, OSBI
special agents would regularly review the case.
Special Agent Amie Gates inherited the case and began working with
local law enforcement to remind them of the brutal murder of the elderly
woman. She also called upon Cold Case Investigator Clif Gann. The two
developed a lead through the Texas County Sheriff’s Office from an inmate. That inmate had been told of the murder by the man who said he
was involved. That information led to a witness who had been married to
one of the suspect. That man had since died, giving the woman confidence she could speak with law enforcement.
Information provided from those interviews, gave special agents names
and detailed information about the murder only the killers and investigators knew. A check with Vital Statistics showed all three men had died.
However, these agents presented a report to the district attorney. District
Attorney Mike Boring felt the evidence was so strong he issued a letter
indicating there would have been sufficient basis to file charges on the
three men.
The relentless efforts by Special Agent Amie Gates and expertise of
seasoned Cold Case Investigator Clif Gann finally put to rest a murder
mystery never forgotten.

A Chickasha man got more than just
a couple of tacos at the Taco Bell on December 31 after he assaulted a police officer and tried to take his gun.
James Hartline, 27, was charged with
assault and battery on a peace officer
and obstruction on January 3 in Grady
County District Court.
According to court records, during a
traffic stop, Hartline hit officer Jim Peek
several times in order to gain control of
his firearm.
Reports state Peek pulled Hartline’s
vehicle over because the tag was unreadable with dirt. They came to a stop
in Taco Bell’s parking lot. A struggle between Peek and Hartline ensued,
and Hartline tried to get the officer’s gun. Peek yelled for help and two
Taco Bell employees came to his aide. Hartline still struggled, so one of
the employees used the officer’s handheld radio to call for backup and the
cavalry soon arrived. Hartline was then taken into custody.
Peek suffered injuries to his arms and legs, according to court documents.
Hartline was transported to Grady County jail and booked. His bond
was set at $200,500 and he was ordered to appear before a judge on
February 7 for his preliminary hearing.
If convicted, Hartline faces up to a year in jail and/or up to a $500 fine.
