TULSA, Okla. – Two would-be car thieves allegedly led police on a “slow-speed pursuit” after trying to steal a car in negative degree temps on February 16.
The men, Joshua Quickle and William Gregory, abandoned their getaway car and took off on foot before being swiftly located by police.
At least it’s warmer in jail!
According to reports, Tulsa Police officers were dispatched to an auto theft in progress around 6 a.m.
The victim said that a suspect was in his truck and was trying to start it.
The suspect wasn’t successful in stealing the truck, however. Once he realized he couldn’t get it started, he jumped into a white truck, which left the scene.
Officers saw the white truck and tried to stop it. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Quickle, kept on driving – slowly, though, since there was ice and snow and all that stuff in the road.
The “slow-speed pursuit” continued through the neighborhood until the driver hit a stop sign. He then threw the truck in reverse and backed right up into an officer’s patrol vehicle.
Still determined to escape the police, Quickle drove off until he reached a dead end.
Quickle and another man, later identified as Gregory, abandoned ship and jumped out of the truck as it was still rolling. The truck crashed right into a tree.
After a short chase, officers caught up to Quickle and placed him under arrest.
They found Gregory hiding in a dumpster in a parking lot. Gregory was unable to climb out of the dumpster on his own.
Officers helped the man out of the trash receptacle, then they also placed him under arrest.
The temperature was -8 at the time of the suspects’ arrests.
Quickle was arrested on complaint of possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, burglary, eluding, driving under suspension, and resisting arrest.
Gregory was arrested for burglary of a vehicle, attempted larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of burglary tools, joyriding, and resisting arrest.
