Heavener woman Sarah Elizabeth Hollan, 20, was arrested for a municipal warrant during a traffic stop on
January 13.
But, it’s what officers found shoved up her hoo-hah at
the jail that really got her in trouble.
According to the police report, a Howe officer was sitting in the parking lot of BNB when he saw a green car
pass by shortly after 10 p.m. He recognized the driver
from past calls and knew the man didn’t have a valid
license.
After confirming through dispatch, he followed the
car, which was headed east on Old Pike Road. He stopped the vehicle and placed
the driver under arrest. He also asked the backseat passengers to exit the car.
One of the passengers was identified as Hollan.
While checking the passengers’ information, the officer was advised that Hollan had a city warrant for her arrest. He placed her in handcuffs and took her to
jail.
A short while later, the officer received a phone call from the Leflore County
Detention Center. Apparently, one of the employees recovered a syringe that
Hollan pulled out of her lady parts during booking.
The officer went back to the jail and field tested the substance inside of the syringe -- it tested positive for methamphetamine.
Hollan is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled dangerous substance, bringing contraband into jail/penal institution and unlawful possession
of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $7,500, and she is scheduled to appear in court on March 4, 2016.

Motorist with brother on hood
crashes into police car
SHELBY, Mich.- A Michigan police department shared
dashboard camera footage from a cruiser that was struck by
a vehicle with the motorist's brother on the hood.
The Shelby Police Department said in a Facebook post officers responding to a Jan. 7 domestic violence complaint
expected to find two brothers fighting inside a home.
However, they instead discovered one of the brothers on
the hood of a car being driven by the other brother.
The car headed straight for the patrol cruiser and crashed
head-on into the police car.
Police said nobody was injured in the incident, and both
brothers were arrested on separate charges.

February Is Teen Dating Violence
Awareness and Prevention Month
During this month, and at all times, parents need to be aware of
the issue of teen dating violence. For as much as domestic violence
among adults is an issue that is too often not discussed -- and too often kept a secret by the victim -- teen dating violence is even less discussed, and even less reported by victims. Nevertheless, in a recent
survey of over 4,000 9th through 12th graders, one in five reported
being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner.
The sad fact is that two out of three teens in an abusive relationship
don’t ever tell anyone about the abuse. For girls, when they experience serious sexual abuse they only report it to an authority figure six
percent of the time. This makes it very difficult to know when your
teen has become a victim of dating violence.
Still, there are warning signs that every parent and teacher can and
should look for. Because teenage years are difficult (and secretive)
enough as it is, it’s important to be aware of these warning signs, and
to approach your teen in a way that will make them feel comfortable
talking with you.
For more information, contact your local DHS.

Wilburton woman Kirsten Paige
Vanzandt, 33, tried to blame a poor
innocent animal for making her run
off the road.
The more likely culprit? Too much
booze.
According to the police report, a
Wilburton officer was dispatched to
Fouche Maline Road by Lutie Cemetery shortly after 6 a.m. because a
truck was stuck in the ditch. When he
arrived, he saw a white truck in the
ditch sideways. No one as in the vehicle, but the officer knew the truck
belonged to Vanzandt.
About 10 minutes later, another truck pulled up to the scene. It
then backed up and stopped. The officer went to the vehicle to see
what the driver was doing, and he found Vanzandt sitting in the
driver’s seat.
Vanzandt told the officer in slurred speech that she was going to
pull the other truck out of the ditch. The woman smelled like alcohol
and her eyes were bloodshot. She admitted that the had been drinking and told the officer she was the one who wrecked the truck.
Vanzandt had an explanation, though. She told him that an animal
could have run out in front of her or a vehicle could have run her off
the road.
The officer administered field sobriety tests and concluded the
woman was intoxicated. He placed her under arrest and took her to
jail.
An intoxilyzer revealed that the woman’s BAC was 0.18, more than
twice the legal limit.
Vanzandt is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 3, 2016.

McAlester man Douglas Eugene Smitherman Jr.,
38, allegedly ran his friend over with his vehicle for
no good reason on January 24. The man was later arrested after he reportedly assaulted someone else.
According to the police report, a McAlester officer
was dispatched to the 500 block of Legends Lane
shortly after 2 p.m. to investigate the incident. The
victim told him he was riding in his car and on his way
to meet Smitherman when he saw one of his friends
near the intersection of Fifth and Van Buren. The man
said they pulled over on Fifth, and he exited the vehicle to go talk to his friend.
Just then, Smitherman drove by.
The victim said Smitherman turned around and accelerated toward where he was standing. He tried to get out of the way, but Smitherman maneuvered around the parked vehicle and hit the victim. He then left
the scene.
The woman who was driving the victim told police the same account of events.
After speaking with the victim and witness, the officer went to the scene of the
crime. He found tire tracks on the side of a yard on Fifth Street just south of Van
Buren Avenue.
The suspect wasn’t arrested until two days later.
On January 26, the officer was dispatched to a local motel to speak with a woman who said she’d been assaulted. Guess who she claimed attacked her? Smitherman.
The officer placed the man under arrest and transported him to jail.
Smitherman is being charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on February
12, 2016.

Hugo man Dustin Coley Hudson, 32, allegedly broke into a woman’s home while she was sleeping and stole a bottle of pills on January 14.
Police later found the man asleep in the woman’s home.
According to the affidavit, the victim went to the police department shortly after 5 p.m. and spoke to some Hugo officers. She said
she was taking a nap when she woke up at approximately 2 p.m. and
heard Hudson talking loudly in her home. She noticed that the man
had gone through her purse and took a bottle of Valium.
Hudson walked out of her house, and the woman said she chased
after him to get her meds. When she confronted the man, the victim
said he pushed her up against the wall. She told the officers she believed the man entered her home through a broken window.
This wasn’t the woman’s first run-in with the man. Apparently he had broken several windows in her home.
The officers went to the woman’s home. There was stuff all over the floor. Hudson was
sleeping on a mattress in a bedroom. Both windows in the room were shattered.
The officers placed Hudson under arrest and searched his pockets. They found a pipe with
a white residue that later tested positive for methamphetamine.
During the arrest, Hudson never woke up. Paramedics arrived to take the man to the
hospital.
The officer spoke to the victim’s son, who said he came home from work to find the house
trashed with clothes, pills and other items all over the floor. He walked through the house
and found Hudson sleeping on his bed. He said he woke the man up and told him to leave.
Hudson didn’t seem to like that -- he got in the other man’s face, and a fist fight ensued.
During the fight, Hudson fell on the floor and went to sleep. The man said he then left the
house to call his mom and let her know what happened.
Hudson is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful
possession of drug paraphernalia, breaking and entering with unlawful intent and assault
and battery. His bond was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on February 2, 2016.

A Broken Bow man was arrested in Pushmataha County for
allegedly breaking into a trailer and making himself at home
on January 14.
30-year-old Justin Allen Young claimed he had permission
to be there, but he didn’t.
According to the affidavit, a Pushmataha County deputy was
dispatched to Wheeler Road just south of Cloudy Road at approximately 7:30 p.m. When he arrived, the reporting party
explained that he watched over the property and camping
trailers on the land. He was going in for the night when he noticed that the outside security light was on. The man said the
light wasn’t supposed to be on, so he went to investigate. He
found a man wandering around the camp area.
The man identified himself as Young, and he insisted he had permission to be there.
The caretaker said he called the property owner, who advised he didn’t know Young and he
wanted the trespasser off of his property. The man said he told Young he needed to leave or
he was going to call the police. Young told the man he wasn’t going anywhere.
A deputy arrived with his K9 partner to assist, and the officers yelled out to the suspect.
They didn’t get a reply, but one of the deputies did see Young look out of the window.
The deputy told him to exit the trailer with his hands up. Young said no, so the deputy and
his K9 went inside the trailer to get the man. They placed him in handcuffs and took him
outside.
The deputy asked Young who have him permission to be there. He said the owner did.
When the deputy asked Young what the owner’s name was, he said he didn’t remember.
While on the property, Young caused quite a bit of damage. He pried the door to the trailer
open and tore a lock off the electrical box so he could turn the electricity on at the camp. The
man had also apparently stolen some cans of food from the community kitchen.
Young is being charged with burglary in the second degree, malicious injury to property
under $1,000 and obstructing an officer. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on February 10, 2016.

Burgess
A Stigler man wanted for warrants
was locked up for drug paraphernalia after police officers searched his
room and found a snort tube with
residue.
According to the affidavit, Stigler
officers went to the 600 block of NW
Second on January 27 looking for
36-year-old Aaron Shane Burgess.
Burgess was wanted for multiple
warrants.
An officer knocked on the door.
When a man answered, the officer
was greeted by a strong odor of marijuana. The officer asked the man if
Burgess was in the house. He replied
that he thought Burgess had left.
Other people in the living room also told the officer they didn’t
know if Burgess was in the residence.
The officer then asked the man who was smoking weed in the
house -- the man admitted that he was. While the officer was talking
to the man, Burgess walked into the room. The officer placed him
under arrest.
He then asked the man who answered the door if there were any
more drugs in the house. The man said no, and gave the officer
permission to search his house. In a back room, the officer found a
snort tube with residue inside and some burnt tinfoil. He asked who
stayed in that room.
Burgess and a woman told the officer that they did. When the officer told the couple what he had found, Burgess admitted that the
paraphernalia was his.
Burgess is being charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $2,500, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on February 2, 2016.
Up in smoke
no Payoffs aLLoweD
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

that was in the register. She said she handed over approximately $274 in cash.
The man then left the store.
At approximately 1:50 a.m., an officer found a man
matching the description of the suspect at N. Third and W. Walnut. He told the

A Lehigh woman was locked up on January 22 after an officer caught her driving while drunk with two open beers.
According to the affidavit, 33-year-old Shelley Kaye Horn
was also verbally abusive toward the officer during the stop.
At approximately 10:35 p.m., a Coal County deputy was on
patrol east of Lehigh on Division when he saw a vehicle speeding down the road. He followed the car so he could estimate
how fast it was going, but the car’s speed soon became the least
of his worries.
While driving behind the car, he saw it drift off of the road
to the right. He stopped the vehicle and made contact with the
driver, identified as Horn. She smelled strongly like alcohol
and there were two open containers of beer in the passenger
seat.
The officer asked her to step out of the car. When she did,
the deputy noticed the woman was unsteady on her feet, had
bloodshot eyes and her speech was extremely slurred. As if it
wasn’t obvious enough, she admitted that she had been drinking prior to the stop.
Horn wasn’t very nice to the deputy, but maybe it was just
the alcohol talking?
The deputy placed her under arrest for suspicion of driving
under the influence and took her to jail.
Horn is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and transporting opened container
of beer. She was released on a personal recognizance bond and
is scheduled to appear in court on February 25, 2016.

A Waxahachie, Texas, woman, 53, was
locked up in McCurtain County for allegedly stealing a man’s truck from his residence.
According to the affidavit, a McCurtain
County deputy was dispatched to a residence on Highway 70 at approximately
4:40 a.m. A man told him that he started
his truck to warm it up before he headed to
work. He went back inside his house and
heard a car door slam shut. When he went
to investigate, his truck was gone. A white
Jeep was parked right beside where his
truck had been.
The man said he saw his truck turn west on Highway 70 toward
Valliant.
While the deputy was waiting for a wrecker to come pick up the
Jeep, he was advised that a Valliant officer had stopped the stolen
truck at the EZ Mart. A woman identified as Francis York Johnson
was in the driver’s seat.
When the officer asked her where she got the truck, she read the
dealer’s name that was on the tailgate.
She placed her under arrest.
The deputy later talked to the woman and she told him that she
bought the truck from the bank. She also told him her name was
Jennifer.
The deputy again asked her where she got the truck. This time, she
said she bought it at an auction.
The deputy explained to her that the truck was just stolen from a
residence and a Jeep was left in its place. Johnson stopped talking.
Back at the sheriff’s office, the deputy looked at a printout of the
stolen vehicle’s tag information. The secondary owner of the car’s
name was Jennifer.
Jail staff correctly identified the suspect as Johnson.
Johnson is being charged with possession of stolen vehicle. She
was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on February 25, 2016.

Checotah man Michael Joe Taylor, 55,
was arrested January 22 after he slammed
a door and broke the glass during an argument.
According to the police report, a Mcintosh
County deputy was dispatched to the Leisure Heights division in Checotah to check
out a dispute. When he arrived, he noticed
that the window on the storm door was busted out.
A woman at the residence told him that she and Taylor got
into an altercation the day before. He came back over to her
residence earlier that day and tried to start it up again. She
said he walked across the street from his house to her residence multiple times that day. During one of those times, he
pounded on her door, shattering the glass.
The woman had some blood on the top of her foot from
where the broken glass hit it.
The deputy tried to talk to Taylor about the incident, but
the man wasn’t home. The deputy left the area and told the
victim to let him know when Taylor returned. He was dispatched back to the residence a short while later.
The deputy went to the man’s house and asked about the
glass. Taylor said he didn’t know anything.
The deputy told him he was under arrest. As he put handcuffs on the man, the deputy saw some dried blood on Taylor’s hand. He asked the man what happened. Taylor said he
didn’t know.
Taylor is being charged with malicious injury to property
under $1,000. His bond was set at $1,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 20, 2016.
Howdy, neighbor!
