Inflatable penis parading Oklahoma Governor candidate charged with raping, kidnapping, and assaulting woman

TULSA, Okla.— An Oklahoman gubernatorial candidate has been charged for raping, assaulting, and kidnapping a woman who responded to his Craiglist ad for a job on his campaign.

58-year-old Paul Tay has a long history when it comes to politics and crime. Around the state, he is infamous for several controversial publicity stunts while running as an independent for governor.

Tay has crashed live mayoral debates, held inappropriate signs around schools, and rode a bike on the interstate with an inflatable penis attached (Inside Edition).

Along with these stunts, his prior record has cast mixed light on his political aspirations. In 2003, Tay pleaded guilty to assaulting an officer. In April 2019, a restraining order was filed against him by a fellow city councilor for stalking, harassing, and threatening her and her newborn.

He was also arrested for soliciting prostitution and served nine months in jail for outraging public decency (The Washington Post).

But his crimes didn’t end there, as he now faces a life sentence.
On August 22, a woman responded to Paul Tay’s Craigslist ad about a position on his political campaign (CBS News).

The ad promised payment and a place to stay. That night, Tay picked up the woman, who wishes to remain unidentified, to drive her to
Oklahoma City as she didn’t have a ride, but instead, he drove her to Tulsa.

The woman then tried to get out of the car, but Tay hit her with a pipe.
On the way to Tulsa, they ran out of gas in Beggs. Tay locked the woman in the car as he begged for money on the side of the road. After he got enough gas money, Tay drove the victim back to his place in Tulsa, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her (Inside Edition).

The next day, the woman convinced Tay to take her to Walmart to buy hygiene products. While there, she was able to alert an employee to the situation. The employee called the police, and they arrested Tay in the parking lot.

Tay was charged with first-degree rape, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon. According to The Washington Post, the rape carries a sentence of five to life, kidnapping is twenty years, and the assault amounts to ten. He is currently being held in David L.
