4 | APRIL 2019 KAY COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
Ponca man Pleads Guilty to Fatal Stabbing
Sage Atheakee Gomez, 23, a member of
the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma, has pleaded
guilty to involuntary manslaughter, announced
Robert J. Troester of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
According to court documents, on September 15, 2018, Gomez stabbed B.L.W., a
member of the Tonkawa Tribe, at a rural residence on Indian land near Ponca City. The
victim died of his wounds on October 2.
Gomez was charged by complaint on September 21 and made his initial appearance in
federal court in Oklahoma City on September
25. He has remained in federal custody since
that time.
On October 16, 2018, a federal grand jury charged Gomez with three federal crimes: voluntary manslaughter “upon sudden quarrel and heat of passion” in Indian Country, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon in Indian Country,
and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in Indian Country.
On March 8, 2019, Gomez pleaded guilty to a superseding information that
charged him with involuntary manslaughter. In particular, the new charge
alleged that when he stabbed the victim during an altercation, Gomez committed a reckless act “without due caution and circumspection, which might
produce death.”
The maximum penalty that could be imposed as a result of this guilty plea
is eight years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Gomez could also face up to
three years of supervised release and will be required to pay restitution to the
victim’s estate. Sentencing will take place in approximately 90 days.

6 | APRIL 2019 KAY COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to recognize that we each can play a part in promoting the social and
emotional well-being of children and families in communities.
Parenting is one of the toughest and most important jobs
in America, and we all have a stake in ensuring that parents
have access to the resources and support they need to be successful. Entire communities play a role in helping families find
the strength they need to raise safe, healthy, and productive
children.
Here are some things you can do:
Get to know your neighbors. Problems seem less overwhelming when support is nearby.
Help a family under stress. Offer to babysit, help with chores and errands, or suggest
resources in the community that can help.
Reach out to children in your community. A smile or a word of encouragement can mean
a lot, whether it comes from a parent or a passing stranger.
Be an active community member. Lend a hand at local schools, community or faithbased organizations, children’s hospitals, social service agencies, or other places where
families and children are supported.
Keep your neighborhood safe. Start a Neighborhood Watch or plan a local “National
Night Out” community event. You will get to know your neighbors while helping to keep your
neighborhood and children safe.
Learn how to recognize and report signs of child abuse and neglect. Reporting your
concerns may protect a child and get help for a family who needs it.

tobacco road
Three people were taken into custody after
a Hominy police officer intercepted a possible
prison tobacco and drug drop during a routine
traffic stop.
Darren Hill, 37, and Tiffany Hill, 38, both of
Oklahoma City, were charged March 13 unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent
to distribute and conspiracy, in Osage County
District Court.
Acamie Moton, 46, of McAlester, was
charged with felony falsely personate another
to create liability.
According to Hominy Police Department, on
March 12, at approximately 2:30 am, Officer
Taylor of The Hominy Police Department performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding
near the intersection of Highway 99 and Cotton
Gin. Upon making contact with the occupants
and beginning his investigation, Officer Taylor
requested the assistance of Osage County
Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit. The K-9 later made a
positive alert on the vehicle.
After searching the vehicle, methamphetamine, marijuana, and multiple pounds of tobacco were found. Some of the items found
were packaged using electrical tape, a common method used to bring contraband into
prison facilities.
All occupants were arrested and booked into
the Osage County Jail.
Darren Hill’s bond was set at $10,000, Tiffany Hill’s bond was set at $5000, and Moton’s
bond was set at $5000.

A man was arrested after throwing a brick into the plexiglas window of a jewelry store...the brick bounced back, hit him in the head and knocked him cold
until the police got there.
Police interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and
connecting it with wires to a photocopy machine. The message “He’s lying”
was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they
thought the suspect wasn’t telling the truth. Believing the “lie detector” was
working, the suspect confessed.
Burglars in Maryland tried to cut through a safe using a Laser Tag gun.
When two service station attendants refused to hand over the cash to an
intoxicated robber, the man threatened to call the police. They still refused, so
the robber called the police and was arrested.
Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a robbery suspect who just couldn’t
control himself during a lineup. When detectives asked each man in the lineup
to repeat the words, “Give me all your money or I’ll shoot,” the man shouted,
“That’s not what I said!”
In a small town of 1700, a student attempted to rob the local convenience
store wearing his letterman’s jacket. He did not realize that he was the only male
named Dana in the whole town.
A company called “Guns For Hire” stages gunfights for Western movies, etc.
One day, they received a call from a 47-year-old woman, who wanted to have
her husband killed. She got 4-1/2 years in jail.
Mexico - A group of drug traffickers cleverly decided to use a propane tanker
to cross the border from Mexico to El Paso, Texas. They released the propane
and concealed it within the truck 6,240 pounds of marijuana. The men did not
realize, however, that they had misspelled the name of the gas company.

Pawnee man arrested after
breaking into ex-girlfriend’s home
Pawnee man Jobie James Howell, 19, was
put behind bars after he drunkenly broke a window at his ex-girlfriend’s home and tried to fight
her and another man on February 27.
According to the police report, a Pawnee officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400
block of Kansas Street around 11:44 a.m. to
investigate reports of an intoxicated man who
was bleeding. When he arrived, he saw Howell
and a woman standing near a door. The officer
noticed that Howell was completely covered in
blood, and blood was dripping off of his body
onto the floor. He also saw blood inside the
house, all over the walls, door frame and floor.
Howell was unsteady on his feet, he had
bloodshot eyes, and he smelled like alcohol.
When the officer asked him why he was injured, he responded, “I hit that
f------ window.” He repeatedly called the officer a “n----,” and admitted that
he had been drinking. He said he was just at the residence visiting a friend.
The woman, who said Howell was her ex-boyfriend, showed the officer a
small door window that Howell had punched. She said the door had been
closed, but Howell had tried to “barge” into the home. She said she barricaded herself in front of the door to stop Howell from entering a bedroom,
where another man was. The woman said Howell didn’t hit her, but she didn’t
move because she didn’t want him to attack the other man. Howell repeatedly threw blood on her because she wouldn’t move.
During the altercation, the woman said Howell had a beer, which she poured
out in the sink. Howell told her at one point, “Don’t make me f------ hit you.”
She said she was scared, because she knew what he was capable of when
intoxicated.
He also told her that the only way he was going to leave the home was if
she called the police – and that’s just what she did.
Howell is being charged with public intoxication, disturbing the peace and
malicious injury to property under $1,000.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty WASHINGTON COUNTY 21 | APRIL 2019
A Bartlesville woman, who was desperate to get
away after she was caught shoplifting, hit a grocery store employee with her car.
Mary Haggard, 30, was charged February 28
with assault with a dangerous weapon and larceny
of merchandise from retailer, in Washington County District Court.
Reports state Haggard was in a Homeland store
in Bartlesville when an employee noticed Haggard
stuffing items into her backpack. Two employees
confronted Haggard as she was leaving the store,
but she hurried to her car and shut the door.
In her hasty retreat, Haggard put her car into
drive and ran over a curb. She then opened the door and gave a pork loin
and some rice to the employees. When the employees told her they believed she had more in her backpack, Haggard cussed at the employees
and put her car in reverse, leaving the door wide open. She then ran into
one of the employees until the door started to bend and then drove away.
Bartlesville police found Haggard at her residence and arrested her.
Bond for Haggard was set at $2500.

Oklahoma senator proposes bill to allow counties to decide on medical marijuana legalization
OKLAHOMA CITY – Six months after Oklahoma voters approved a measure
legalizing medical marijuana, an Oklahoma lawmaker has filed a bill that would
allow counties to decide whether or not the measure applies to their area.
In June, over 891,000 voters cast their ballots in regards to State Question
788, which legalizes medical marijuana in Oklahoma. Ultimately, the measure
passed by a majority vote.
Under State Question 788, a person 18 years or older would need to apply
for a medical marijuana license with the Oklahoma State Department of Health
after receiving a note from their doctor. If approved, the patient would then
have to pay $100 to obtain that license.
Since applications became available in August, officials say more than 30,000
patient applications have been approved by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana
Authority.
Now, an Oklahoma lawmaker has proposed a bill that would allow counties
to decide whether they want to follow State Question 788.
Senate Bill 325, which was authored by Sen. Casey Murdock, would add
restrictions to where medical marijuana can be consumed, sold or possessed.
“A county may, by vote of a majority of the registered voters in the county,
restrict or prohibit the possession, consumption, transport, sale, cultivation or
manufacture of marijuana or marijuana products, or any combination thereof,”
the bill states.
Murdock told KJRH that his measure would give counties flexibility.
“The locals, whether it’s the municipalities or whether it is the local law enforcement, they’re the ones that are going to have to deal with this new law,”
Sen. Casey Murdock (R-District 27) said.

Sean R. The people voted for it. It shouldn’t be changed by politicians and
their “interests”
Mike B: I agree. Sounds like he’s wanting to shut down growers and everyone would have to buy from him
Bobbi H: Unconstitutional bill.... the ppl have spoken
John J: Ok if they wanna do that they shouldn’t be allowed to have any
access to the sales tax from it either. So all state taxes should be funded accordingly. Let’s see if they like losing that.
Sandy S: I agree! It has already produced a major windfall in OK. Just in the
licensing. I haven’t heard how much it has made in the pharmacies yet but I’m
sure it is a lot.
Donnie C: don’t have a problem with that. It’s worked with liquor in the past.
John J: liquor is not a prescription drug. Now since the law has passed
that would be just like outlawing Xanax, antidepressants and hormone pills
because these are all mood-altering or possibly mind-altering drugs. just like
marijuana like it or not these are all prescribed medical drugs
Austin H: Less government is the best option. Vote him out
Richard F: It is medical. You cannot compare it to liquor and wet or dry
counties. Medications are regulated for all people
Nancy M: Can we VOTE out this fool?
Tania J: Wasting tax payer money to try n oppress voters n votes IMO. It
was voted on n passed into state law by the voices of voters. Now, let’s find a
way to write a bill n make the voters votes be negated. Go figure
Cyndi J: It’s already been decided - this is crazy
Matthew M: I hope this guy loses his job next election
Stephen S: This jackass needs to be put out to Pasture. We the people
of Oklahoma passed this law and the law makers need to stay out of it. The
people of Oklahoma are tired of having to sue their representatives o er a law
we passed.
Donnie C: what representatives have you sued and when ?
Stephen S: I haven’t sued any and nobody else’s have sued a representative. The people of Oklahoma have had to file lawsuits over the lawmakers
trying to add they’re 2 cents in on the law or not implementing it properly. Actually the people of Oklahoma have had to basically sue their selves. No lawsuits
have had to go to court because the lawmakers recanted on their decisions.
Maybe that’s a little clearer. Sorry for the confusion.
Victor D: Vote him out of office we shouldn’t tolerate these kind of representatives!!!
Nick J: The people have spoken, these clowns need to get over it already.
Michael M: Sounds like the People spoke and this man thinks he and his
ideas should trump the peoples Vote. This is starting to become a trend. This
politician is a joke
Winnie B: Notice they don’t give a choice to opt out of ANY laws we don’t
want to follow. It’s just an end run around the law. Here is the next run at circumventing the will of the voters. Still not ready for an SQ that allows immediate recall and kicked to the unemployment curb? http://www.soonerpolitics.

Chris H: If we as a state chose to go recreational I believe there should be
a choice just like a dry county but the medical part should not be bothered or
meet the same standards.
Tyler B: This is bullshit and this guy needs a high five. I’m the face. With a
stapler
Heather M: What a joke!
