Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty MCCURTAIN COUNTY 5 | FEBRUARY 2019
On Saturday, January 5, an OHP trooper in McCurtain County was traveling eastbound on State Highway 4 east of Smithville when he met a westbound
black BMW left of center on a curve. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver increased
speed to 130 miles per hour and the trooper pursued.
The BMW departed the roadway and struck two
parked, unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot of the
Country Kitchen Cafe in Smithville.
OHP identified the driver as Ryan Patric Lohrman
and the passenger as Reanna Lynn Friday. Both were
transported by AirEvac helicopter to a hospital in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
Troopers determined the BMW was stolen and that Lohrman had outstanding warrants in two Oklahoma Counties.
Both occupants were released from the hospital and a trooper patrolling
in LeFlore County conducted a traffic stop in Pocola locating Lohrman,
who attempted to claim a different identity to avoid apprehension.
Lohrman was transported to the McCurtain County jail and booked for
possession of a stolen vehicle, felony eluding, outstanding warrants and
additional misdemeanor crimes.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

A 21-year-old woman who was sought by
authorities in Las Vegas after allegedly skipping out on a $35 manicure and using a stolen car to run over and kill a manicurist has
been arrested in Arizona.
Krystal Whipple was taken into custody by
a team of Phoenix-area fugitive hunters involving local police, county investigators and
FBI agents, Las Vegas police said. The arrest
occurred in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale.
Las Vegas police Officer Jacinto Rivera
said he did not immediately have details of
the arrest. He said prosecutors will seek her
extradition from Arizona to Las Vegas where
Whipple was sought in a warrant issued Jan.
4 on murder and robbery charges in the killing of Ngoc Q. Nguyen, 51, of Garden Grove,
California.
The case sparked intense national interest after police released an internet
plea for help identifying Whipple that showed parking lot security video of a
woman leaving the nail salon Dec. 29. Homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said Whipple tried to pay for her manicure with a fraudulent credit card before telling
Nguyen that she was going to her car to get cash, then drove away.
Nguyen went to the front of the car and a man who Spencer identified as
Nguyen’s husband was seen in the security footage holding onto the vehicle
from behind as the car accelerates out of a parking lot.
Police say the car was a rental that had been stolen. It was later found
abandoned at an apartment complex.
Whipple has a criminal record in Las Vegas including a conviction in 2017
for attempted possession of a stolen vehicle. Clark County District Court records said she was sentenced to four months in jail for violating probation in
that case.
An attorney who represented Whipple at that time said he doesn’t represent her now.

February Is Teen Dating Violence
Awareness and Prevention Month
Being able to tell the difference between healthy, unhealthy and abusive
relationships can be more difficult than you would think. No two relationships
are the same, so what’s unhealthy in one relationship may be abusive in another. Although there are many signs to pay attention to in a relationship, look
for these common warning signs of dating abuse:

10 | FEBRUARY 2019 ATOKA COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
As a female shopper exited a convenience store, a man grabbed her
purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately and the woman was
able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher, and police apprehended him within minutes. They put him in the cruiser and drove
back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to
stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, “Yes Officer, that’s her.
That’s the lady I stole the purse from.”
In Bent Forks, Ill., kidnapers of ice-cube magnate Worth Bohnke sent a
photograph of their captive to Bohnke’s family. Bohnke was seen holding
up a newspaper. It was not that day’s edition and, in fact, bore a prominent headline relating to Nixon’s trip to China. This was pointed out to
the kidnapers in a subsequent phone call. They responded by sending a
new photograph showing an up-to-date newspaper. Bohnke, however,
did not appear in the picture. When this, too, was refused, the kidnapers became peevish and insisted that a photograph be sent to them
showing all the people over at Bohnke’s house holding different issues of
Success Magazine. They provided a mailing address and were immediately apprehended. They later admitted to FBI agents they did not understand the principle involved in the photograph/newspaper concept. “We
thought it was just some kind of tradition,” said one.
After being arrested for stealing a car, the judge asked the man, “how
do you plead?” Instead of saying guilty or not guilty the man said: “Before
we go any further, judge, let me explain why I stole the car.” The judge
ruled in record time.
When two service station attendants refused to hand over the cash
to an intoxicated robber, the man threatened to call the police. They still
refused, so the robber called the police and was arrested.
Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a robbery suspect who just
couldn’t control himself during a lineup. When detectives asked each
man in the lineup to repeat the words, “Give me all your money or I’ll
shoot,” the man shouted, “That’s not what I said!”
In a small town of 1700, a student attempted to rob the local convenience store wearing his letterman’s jacket. He did not realize that he was
the only male named Dana in the whole town.
A company called “Guns For Hire” stages gunfights for Western movies, etc. One day, they received a call from a 47-year-old woman, who
wanted to have her husband killed. She got 4-1/2 years in jail.
Accused of selling drugs, Howard Jones’s attorney sought to lower
his client’s bail from $150,000 insisting that Jones would not think about
fleeing. At that very instant, Jones sprinted out of the front door of the
courtroom. He was caught fifty minutes later and his bail was raised to
$500,000.

IT WASN’T SANTA...
A Durant man is in jail after he allegedly
broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend and
stabbed her new man on the morning of December 25.
According to reports, 24-year-old Clayton
Dakota Arrington allegedly went to a home
at the intersection of Mississippi and 6th Avenue, where his ex-girlfriend and a man were
lying in bed.
Arrington entered the home uninvited
through an unlocked back door, and walked
into the kitchen, where he grabbed a knife.
He then went to a bedroom where the couple was. The bedroom door was locked, but
he kicked it down.
When Arrington entered the room, the two men started fighting. Arrington
cut the victim in the face. He then fled from the residence.
Officers found him in Calera less than an hour after the attack. Arrington
was driving down the road and initially sped up when he saw officers after
him. He pulled over after about two miles and admitted to police that he had
been involved in a stabbing in Durant.
Arrington is being charged with burglary in the first degree and assault and
battery with a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on February 14, 2019.

Jailbirds needs a route delivery and setup person for our MCCURTAIN, CHOCTAW, BRYAN, ATOKA, COAL, AND PUSHMATAHA counties route. This is all
one route and is delivered on the first weekend of each month. We prefer someone who lives in one of these counties but will consider someone close. We
need someone with dependable transportation and a clean record. We need
motivated, clean, presentable people to represent us. This job works great for
couples. If interested please call 918-285-5245 or email your resume to
